Full-Time DIRECTOR OF LGBTQI AFFAIRS
Job Description
Under the direction of the Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer, with very wide latitude for independent initiative, decision-making and judgment, the Director of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning and Intersex (LGBTQI) Affairs is responsible for promoting access and equal opportunity to social services and benefits to LGBTQI communities throughout New York City.
The Director will collaborate with Department of Social Services (DSS), Department of Homeless Services (DHS), and Human Resources Administration (HRA) program areas to assess existing policies and procedures and make recommendations to improve service delivery; work collaboratively with the Office of Constituent Services (OCS) to assess complaints about discrimination, access and sensitivity; and coordinate with various stakeholders to develop comprehensive agency policies and procedures that improve service delivery to all clients.
The Office of Advocacy is seeking one (1) Confidential Strategy Planner to function as a Director of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning and Intersex (LGBTQI).
The Director of LGBTQI will:
• Coordinate with key stakeholders to assess and develop recommendations on improving access
to services for all clients.
• Collaborate with DSS, DHS and HRA program areas to evaluate policies and procedures and
provide guidance on ways to improve service delivery to LGBTQI clients.
• Serve as liaison with various city agencies, government entities, community-based organizations,
and advocates regarding LGBTQI-specific concerns.
• Assist agency staff with LGBTQI-related questions, guidance on agency LGBTQI policies and
connection to LGBTQI-affirming resources
• Liaise between and among advocates and the agencies to ensure grievances and complaints are
appropriately addressed.
• Collaborate with the Office of Constituent Services to facilitate the resolution of complaints and
accommodations and provide assistance to LGBTQI clients.
• Coordinate with DSS’s Office of Legal Affairs to ensure that DSS, DHS and HRA programs are in
compliance with civil rights, equal access, and entitlement laws and regulations, including the agency
obligations under the stipulation of settlement in Lopez vs. City of New York.
• Work with various program training partners within DSS, DHS and HRA or contracted by the agencies
to develop appropriate procedures and staff development trainings on providing culturally responsive
services for LGBTQI clients.
