Full-Time Director of Educational Technologies and Online Learning

Job Description

Elmira College is a private, coeducational, Phi Beta Kappa college located in Elmira, New York.

Founded in 1855, Elmira was the first college for women with a course of study equal in rigor to the best men’s colleges. “Female seminaries” as they were called at the time, were essentially glorified high schools. In contrast, from its very inception, Elmira College offered rigorous academic programs.

Becoming coeducational in 1969, today Elmira has an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 800 full-time, mostly residential students. The College also offers advanced certificates, master’s degree programs, and non-credit courses for professional development.

As the guardian of Quarry Farm, where Mark Twain summered for decades and wrote many of his most iconic novels, Elmira College is home to the Center for Mark Twain Studies, one of four nationally recognized Twain sites which serves as a research center for visiting Twain scholars.

Reporting to Provost, the Director of Educational Technologies and Online Learning is responsible for planning, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating online and hybrid courses, in collaboration with faculty content developers, as well as providing pedagogical training and support for technology enhanced instruction, utilizing the Learning Management System across all teaching modalities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support pedagogical enhancements through Technology Enhanced Instruction by training and supporting faculty to deliver course content that meets the educational goals and outcomes of the college, programs, and individual courses;
  • Identify core competencies in online education to meet program, accreditation, and assessment standards.
  • Facilitate achievement of core competencies among instructors and students.
  • Assist Academic Affairs faculty and academic staff in developing assessment tools to determine the effectiveness and utilization of technology enhanced instruction at the course, program, and academic support levels;
  • Serve as the College Learning Management System Administrator; copy courses; provide sandboxes; respond to employee and student help requests, etc.;
  • Develop onboarding and online learning training modules for students and instructors;
  • Train and support faculty, staff, and students on technology enhanced instruction;
  • Serve as project manager for online course development and revisions;
  • Collaborate with the College Information Technology (IT) Department to ensure system maintenance and courseware troubleshooting;
  • Collaborate with Provost, Chairs, and Directors on online and distance education strategies;
  • Provide technology enhanced instructional training and serve as a resource for all faculty and academic staff for course end program delivery an all modalities: on-campus, online, and hybrid.
  • Keep accurate records and provides an annual report.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree or commensurate experience required, with three years of experience in online and distance learning;
  • Familiarity with classroom technologies, as well as the Microsoft Suite of Office applications;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others.
