Who We Are
Damayan is a grassroots organization that serves and empowers low-wage Filipino migrant workers living and working in New York City and New Jersey, especially domestic workers and labor trafficking survivors. We were established in 2002 by a group of Filipina domestic workers experiencing employer abuses, like illegally refusing to pay minimum wage, termination without cause or notice, and working overtime without compensation.
About the Role
Damayan is hiring for a Director of Development & Communications (DDC), a key member of the team. The DDC oversees all areas of fundraising to meet our $800,000 budget, such as institutional fundraising, individual donor outreach, and government contracts. The DDC also oversees communications, including social media, digital outreach, and print. Reporting to the Executive Director, the DDC will supervise our part-time communications staff, part-time grant writer, and development associate (when the position is filled). They will work alongside our organizing and case management team.
Areas of Work
Communications
- Overall
- Develop plans for list growth and engagement
- Ensure consistency in Damayan communications
- Lead development of Damayan statements
- Digital outreach
- Maintain, schedule, and write (with support from other staff) all digital outreach
- Develop plan for social media outreach
- Manage communications staff in implementation of all projects
Development
- Overall
- Develop and implement annual strategic fundraising plan to ensure the financial health and sustainability for Damayan
- Hire, onboard, and manage a Development Associate
- Grants and government contracts
- Prospect for new institutional funders
- Maintain calendar of deadlines
- Collect all data on deliverables from program staff
- Lead all grant and report writing with support from other staff
- Submit grants and reports with support from operations
- Individual giving
- Build relationships with current donor base
- Support other staff in maintaining donor relationships
- Support operations in maintaining clean data on all donors
- Run periodic fundraising campaigns (digital, peer to peer, etc)
- Build board involvement in fundraising
Organizational Leadership
- Work with the staff to do annual, quarterly and monthly planning, and assessments
- Delegate responsibilities and supervise the senior, coordinator and associate team members of the Development & Communications Team, and hold check-in and feedback meetings

Qualifications
- 3 to 7 years of development experience
- At least 2 years of supervision experience
- Fluency in Tagalog (preferred)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Skilled in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Signal, and Zoom
- Accountable, communicative, and self-driven
- Familiarity with PowerBase or other CRM
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Other Employment Information
- Full-time, 40 hours a week position, Tuesday through Saturday, 11am to 7pm
- In-person employment at our office at 406 West 40th Street, Third Floor (walk-up), New York, NY (with some opportunities for hybrid work)
- Salary range: $65,000-$70,000, commensurate with experience
- Generous benefits including health insurance and Paid Time Off (PTO) for vacation, holidays, sick, and personal days
