Full-Time Director of Advertising Industry Advocacy
Job Description
CCDH is expanding our team and looking to hire a passionate, committed, and proactive Director of Advertising Industry Advocacy.
This is a new position with a dynamic and varied portfolio, offering the opportunity to partner with global brands to reduce the profitability of hate and disinformation online.
The postholder will have demonstrated experience in working with corporates to advance a conscious, ethical and inclusive agenda. They will know how to work with advertisers, brands, and agencies, build genuine partnerships, and strategically engage industry to advance a mission.

We work across a range of different areas, from protecting children online to countering identity-based hate and researching the harms of generative artificial intelligence. We champion human rights and civil liberties online and build partnerships which align with our mission to create a big tent fighting for social media reform.
As the primary source of revenue for social media platforms, advertisers have the power to influence platforms to do better. That’s why we are building a new department within CCDH to work directly with advertisers. This new role will be instrumental in making this a reality. Initially, the role will be incubated within the Policy and Partnerships team while the postholder build a comprehensive plan for sustained engagement with corporate partners, brands, and advertisers.
The postholder will convene, inform and galvanize corporate brands to use their advertising spend responsibly on social media. They will work with CCDH’s world leading research and partnership teams to give corporates the tools they need to ensure their online advertising decisions do not facilitate hate and disinformation. A successful candidate will have demonstrated ability in bridging advocacy goals with corporate objectives and possess the skills necessary to bring CCDH’s partnerships into a new phase of growth.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to)
- Developing a comprehensive plan and pathway for success for brand partnerships
- Creation of a market and stakeholder facing mechanism to encourage transparency and progress towards limiting ad support for illegal and illicit content (aligned with regulatory definitions)
- Developing a comprehensive plan and pathway for success for brand partnerships
- Developing a business model that helps drive sustainable revenues from a research and data and transparency product
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to develop and manage a system of approachable change that rewards transparency and progress towards the projects goals
- Leveraging CCDH’s research and policy findings to facilitate meetings, roundtables, and other events with brands and advertisers
- Foster and manage stakeholder relationships, including but not limited to corporates, brands, agencies, consultants, publicists, ad tech, media platforms and relevant contacts globally
- Spearheading the development of brand safety guidelines, standards, policy and platform recommendations, and intervention points for brands to partner with CCDH
- Researching and developing the narratives, standards and advocacy tools needed to influence corporate brands, media agencies, ad tech companies, and media platforms
- Building towards the creation of a standalone corporate entity, with sustainable funding, strong governance and management infrastructure, and huge brand visibility
- Developing multistage, multiyear business plan that runs from concept to embedded industry reference point, and manage progress towards it via program delivery
- Managing communications internally and with key CCDH stakeholders on progress (e.g., funders, members), and support external communications teams on market-facing progress reporting
What are we looking for in a candidate?
Essential
- 7-10+ years in advertising, private sector, and/or corporate relations.
- Experience working within corporate environments to advance CSR and/or sustainable and ethical decision-making is desirable
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly when communicating to diverse audiences
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills; ability to represent CCDH externally at parliamentary and civil society events
- Demonstrated commitment to creating change and generating consensus through working with diverse audiences across the private sector, government and civil society
- Demonstrated experience in building networks, coalitions, and broad tent initiatives
- Ability to prioritise and execute multiple tasks across a varied portfolio
- Ability to analyse and clearly communicate while navigating timelines and obstacles with your team and external stakeholders
- Experience of maximising digital tools and media opportunities to promote organizational objectives
Desirable
- Experience interpreting and using data to inform communications, partnerships and analysis.
- Familiarity with advertising monitoring tools and techniques.
- Corporate social responsibility background and/or experience in generating support for change within specific industries.
- Experience in working with governments, regulators, and/or brand safety initiatives.
Competitive Salary Package
- Location: Washington, D.C. with travel.
- Salary: $150,000
