Full-Time Director of Administration and Finance
Job Description
DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE, School of Engineering (SoE)-Dean’s Office, to serve as the senior operations administrator for the SoE Dean’s Office. Responsibilities will include overseeing all administrative and financial operations, including research administration, budgeting, financial planning and oversight, payroll, and salary certification process; managing and implementing initiatives to improve service delivery and business systems; serving as a resource for DLC staff on financial matters and as the SoE’s administrative liaison; supporting broad-based strategic initiatives developed/led by the dean on behalf of the school or Institute; developing and overseeing the implementation of new systems/policies/procedures; acting as a thought partner to generate creative solutions and define strategic initiatives; coordinating budget and proposal preparation for new programs within the school, attending meetings with faculty, legal counsel, and outside sponsors; and other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; seven years’ experience in an administrative/management position; demonstrated leadership skills; good judgment and discretion with sensitive/confidential matters; excellent problem-solving, coaching, goal-setting, decision-making, analytical, organizational, project management, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills; meticulous attention to detail and accuracy; knowledge of financial and research administration in an academic/research environment with federal, corporate, and foundation sponsors; experience supervising staff, including recruitment, selection, and performance management and development; and proficiency with Microsoft Office and modern financial and HR information systems and database software. Must be able to promote team-building and facilitate consensus; integrate new concepts, practices, guidelines, policies, and emerging technologies into strategic planning and new business methods; collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students; and manage multiple conflicting and changing priorities. PREFERRED: master’s degree; MIT experience
