What We Can Achieve Together:

The Director will define organizational priorities and strategies for our work in cities in New York State, including but not limited to our New York City based programs. They will lead a team and take appropriate conservation actions and seize opportunities to increase the resiliency of cities to environmental changes and challenges consistent with TNC’s global outcomes and priorities. The Director serves as a principle contact to government agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations, the academic community, other urban conservation practitioners within the Conservancy, and the public. They will develop key partnerships with public and private organizations and community leaders in order to effectively implement strategies and to widely communicate solutions and best practices. They will build upon a strong foundation of urban conservation work in New York City, and ensure that the continuing work in New York City is coordinated with the Conservancy’s efforts across New York State, throughout the North America Region and around the globe.

What You’ll Bring:

  • BA/BS degree and 10 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Fundraising experience, including identifying donor prospects and donor cultivation.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and directing complex or multiple projects of strategic importance, including managing finances, supervising multidisciplinary professionals and coordinating the work of partners while meeting deadlines.
  • Experience working with current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) in New York City.
  • Experience working with community-based organizations and expertise working with and for diversity, equity, inclusion and justice.
  • Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
  • Experience developing partnerships (partners, community, government).
  • Experience conceiving and implementing strategic and creative initiatives.
  • Experience negotiating.
  • Experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation policy and plans and working with government in New York City or New York State.
  • Experience with financial management of a large program.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi- lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • 10-12 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Developing practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations for conservation purposes.
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English.
  • Demonstrated skill in influencing policy; knowledge of politics and society with respect to environmental affairs; politically savvy.

Salary Information:

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $142,000 – $152,000 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate’s location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
