Job Description
BACKGROUND
United Way of Pierce County brings together cross-sector partners to deliver intentional collaborative partnerships that build a system of care around adults and families struggling with poverty.
JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for administering human resource activities at United Way of Pierce County.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage hiring process: interview, background check, reference, I-9, offer letter, onboarding.
- Ensure job descriptions factually reflect the job and are legally compliant.
- Ensure legal compliance: mandatory training, L&I postings, updated handbook.
- Manage personnel records and files.
- Supervise disputes and oversees the disciplinary process.
- Creates an overall compensation strategy that is fair to employees and financially responsible for United Way of Pierce County.
- Manage dental and medical open enrollment. Answer/research employee questions.
- Oversee employee performance process.
- Notifies finance personnel of employee anniversary dates and authorizes pay increases and bonuses.
- Active involvement in all required meetings.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in personnel management, public administration, psychology, or education or equivalent experiences. Preferred experiences: personnel law (hiring/termination processes, discrimination, affirmative action, harassment, and FMLA/PFML), benefits specifically medical and dental.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Communication: Articulate and clear verbally and in the written word.
- Analytical: Ability to read, understand, and share the essence of legal documents and HR policies.
- Multitask: Well-organized and self-directed person
- Problem-solving: Ability to resolve conflict between employees.
- Working with Others: A team player who treats others with respect and can listen carefully.
- Work Setting: Work is performed within an office setting at UWPC however, some training may occur while attending workshops and/or conferences.
- Personal Management: Self-starter, innovative, flexible, and open to change
