Full-Time Director, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion
Job Description
SickKids is advancing its Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy and is looking for a Director, EDI. Reporting directly to the Executive Lead, Strategic Advisor of EDI, the Director will play a leadership role in the development and implementation of a renewed hospital-wide EDI strategy. This will include collaborating with relevant invested parties, designing programs, overseeing program implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of initiatives. The programs may include but are not limited to education, policy development and review, data initiatives, days of significance, and more.
Responsibilities
- Play a leadership role in the development and implementation of a renewed institution-wide EDI strategy, with long-term and short-term goals. Identify EDI principles to inform renewed strategy and program development.
- Oversee mapping of EDI initiatives and structures across the organization to understand on-going programs and invested parties.
- Upon mapping, provide guidance on the centralization of EDI programs to reduce silos, build partnerships, and strengthen impact of programs.
- Develop EDI programs to advance renewed EDI strategy in collaboration with relevant invested parties and clarify roles and responsibilities. Programs may include, but are not limited to, education, policy development/review, data initiatives, days of significance, etc.
- Oversee members of the EDI team including the program manager, data analyst and students.
- Provide support to SickKids Inclusion Group (identity-based employee groups) Co-Chairs to advance sense of inclusion among employees at SickKids.
- Provide guidance on potential intersections of EDI Strategy programs and upcoming Indigenous Health Strategy programs.
- Support the development of monitoring and evaluation plans for EDI strategy in partnership with invested parties (e.g., Enterprise Data Analytics Office, Human Resources, etc.).
- Work in close collaboration with EDI Advisory Group, EDI Steering Committee, Inclusion Groups, and other invested parties (i.e., Indigenous Health Program Manager, Health Equity Data Initiative Team, Enterprise Data Analytics Office, Human Resources, and more).
- Champion collection of patient health equity data at various levels of the organization (i.e., leadership level, individual level, etc.).
- Maintain strong understanding of current best practices and legislation relating to EDI
Requirements
- Bachelors degree required, Masters degree preferred in relevant discipline (e.g., Social Work, Law, Sociology, Education, Organizational Psychology).
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in EDI including human rights and/or organizational change management.
- Experience in EDI strategy development, implementation, and oversight in a large complex organization.
- Leadership and management experience including the management of people and programs/projects
- Demonstrated knowledge of equity, intersectionality, anti-oppression, relevant human rights legislation (e.g., Human Rights Code of Ontario).
- Demonstrated knowledge of organizational change management practices.
- Strong active listening, interpersonal, oral communication and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and engage in sensitive matters with tact and discretion.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated and proactive. Time management skills to organize and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
