Description

Glendale Community College seeks a leader who is dedicated to all aspects of student success and closing equity gaps, to apply for its Director, Child Development Center position. Definition
Under administrative direction, plans and directs the childcare and educational program for children aged 6-months through transitional kindergarten age preschool at the District’s child development center; may develop and coordinate laboratory observations and practicum experiences; works with and supports college faculty to provide practicum experiences for college students; administers program and classroom activities to provide learning experiences and environments that support children’s social/emotional, cognitive, and physical development; participates in classroom teaching activities as needed; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervision
Works under the direct supervision of the Dean of Instructional Services
Supervises classified staff, temporary employees, and/or student employees.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties and responsibilities are typical of those performed by employees in this classification.

• Plans, and directs, the childcare and educational program for children aged 6-months through transitional kindergarten age at the District’s child development center(s).
• May develop and coordinate laboratory observations, practicum experiences and opportunities for college students enrolled in child development, education, psychology, nursing, or other related courses.
• Works with and supports college faculty to provide practicum experiences for college students.
• Administers program and classroom activities to provide learning experiences and environments that support children’s social/emotional, cognitive, and physical development; participates in classroom teaching activities as needed.
• Oversees and participates in curriculum planning, assessment, and documentation; to ensure children’s educational and developmental goals are met.
• Administers a food program for children.
• Establishes and manages classroom schedules, including the use of shared classroom space, and equipment; ensures facility area(s) are in a safe, clean, and orderly condition;
• Interviews and provides information to parents of prospective students; Enrolls children; and collects enrollment fees and tuition.
• Administers parent education and participation programs; provides direction and information to parent organizations; conducts parent conferences.
• May oversee the supervision and mentoring of college and community students assigned to the child development center.
• Supervises the maintenance of records in compliance with funding or regulatory agencies.
• Ensures that Child Development programs stay current with industry standards, curriculum and accreditation regulations and licensure requirements.
• Serves as an ex-officio member of the CDC’s Advisory Board.
• Develops, implements, establishes, and maintains policies, processes, and procedures for applicable departments; monitors and evaluates operational, department, and service quality; may recommend, develop, and implement quality improvement assessment tools and/or methods with administration and/or regulatory agencies.
• Develops and implements short- and long-term strategies and plans, including the program review process.
• Recommends, monitors, and/or administers budgets for assigned areas; oversees and administers budget allocations and procurements for all assigned funds as appropriate; analyzes and reviews budgetary and financial data.
• Handles and resolves conflicts and issues and reports complaints as appropriate.
• Promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, cultural competency, and a positive work and academic environment.
• Coordinates, and supervises the implementation and modification of technology.
• Supervises department employees; assigns and monitors employee’s work and evaluates employee performance; trains employees; participates in employee selection.
• Monitors and reviews programs and/or operations for legal compliance.
• Analyzes and interprets data; prepares, reviews, and/or approves documents and reports.
• May direct and/or conduct surveys and special studies; may maintain statistics.
• May participate and/or chair committees and task forces.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The education, training and experience qualifications are considered likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform the above essential duties.

Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, or a related field.

Five (5) years of preschool teaching experience, including two (2) years of experience with infant/toddler programs, and three (3) years of site supervisor experience.

Valid permit as a Child Development Program Director issued by the California Department of Education.

Licenses/Certificates/Other Requirements
The following must be provided prior to start date:

• The incumbent may periodically be required to travel to various locations. If the operation of a vehicle is required, the incumbent must have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid California driver’s license.

• Current Adult and Pediatric CPR, first aid and documented training in health practices as required by Title 22 in the California Code of Regulations.

• Program for Infant/Toddler Care Certification (PITC) or six units of Infant /Toddler coursework.

• Operational record keeping Certificate.

• Mandated Child Abuse reporting training certification

Knowledge of:

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS:
The following physical and mental standards are identified as necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities. However, reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

• Mobility: frequent walking and sitting for long periods; occasional kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, crawling, and standing; frequent reaching above and below desk level.
• Dexterity: frequent fine manipulation sufficient to operate a computer keyboard; frequent grasping to handle individual papers, write and take notes, and feel individual objects.

• Work is typically performed in an indoor office or preschool classroom setting.

Additional Information

Salary
Starting salary: Step 1 $5,928.00 to Step 3 $6,537.00 monthly, depending upon education and experience.
Salary range: Step 1 $5,928.00 to Step 11 $9,929.00 monthly (including longevity steps) .
