Salary Range: $86,400-96,100 + Benefits
Reports To: Managing Director of Development (MDD)
The Opportunity
As Bottom Line, a national organization with three regions, continues to evolve, the need to shape fundraising strategy at the regional level has become more important. The New York region is entering our second decade of operations and we are positioning ourselves to serve 2,000 more students annually by 2026. To meet this goal, we must increase our annual operating budget by $2.8 million. As a member of the Development Team, the Director of Annual Giving will play a key role in this growth by cultivating and stewarding community members as individual donors to Bottom Line. Overseeing the annual giving strategy for the New York region, you will manage the New York region’s individual giving portfolio, plan and execute the annual benefit, and implement strong systems and processes to ensure a positive donor experience.
Your Day-to-Day
50% – Pipeline Management
• Manage the New York region’s individual giving portfolio from prospect to stewardship, successfully meeting the region’s $1.2 Million annual revenue goal
• Implement clear strategies and best practices to provide a positive donor experience with high engagement, increase donor retention, upgrade existing donors, secure new donors, and close major gifts
• Manage a portfolio of ~100 potential and existing donors, providing strong engagement opportunities, touch-points, and proper stewardship for all levels of donors
• Collaborate with the Director of Career Connections to cultivate donors through corporate volunteerism
Monitor the region’s annual Board give-or-get process, collaborating with the ED and MDD to maximize board engagement
• Maintain donor information and moves management in Salesforce system
30% – Annual Events & Campaigns
• Collaborate across teams and with external support to plan and implement the New York region’s annual gala
• Work with all leadership groups to create buy-in for the fundraising strategy and resource individuals with the information and tools necessary to activate their networks
• Support with the planning and execution of 2-4 fundraising events
• Collaborate with the program team to source student stories and testimonials
• Draft clear, compelling, and cohesive communications and messaging for fundraising campaigns and events
20% – Leadership
• Lead the leadership council, cultivating leaders and monitoring term limits
• Support the department’s efforts to embody principles of Community-Centric Fundraising
• Serve as an active member of the regional leadership team and an in-region committee (e.g. DEI&A, Culture), assuming leadership on key ad-hoc projects
• Work collaboratively with the National office and other regions on shared projects and opportunities
• Serve on cross-regional planning committees as needed
The Skills You’ll Need
Success in the Director of Annual Giving role will require a deep commitment to Bottom Line’s mission, core values and commitments to DE&I, emotionally intelligent leadership, and a desire to cultivate long-lasting relationships. The ideal candidate will also bring the following skills, attributes and experiences:
• 4+ years of experience in a related position with progressively increasing responsibility
• Demonstrated success managing high-volume portfolios and closing five-figure gifts and above
• Experience managing an annual event/gala yield over $1m in revenue
• Experience in nonprofit development and fundraising or corporate sales
• Experience in a manager-level role or higher with full-cycle portfolio management
• Interest in joining a new team and supporting its growth
• (Preferred) Experience with Salesforce and Community-Centric Fundraising
The People
In this role, you will report to the Managing Director of Development. The Director of Annual Giving will frequently collaborate with the Director of Data, Director of Career Connections, the Regional Leadership Team, the Leadership Council and Associate Board.
