Full-Time Digital Copywriter

Job Description

The Digital Copywriter coordinates and executes — in close coordination with the Website Content Manager, the Director of Digital Strategy and Content and the overall digital team — the content creation for Food & Water Watch/Food & Water Action (FWW/FWA). The person in this role will produce clear, efficient and engaging copywriting, to attract and retain members to support the organizational mission. This position reports to our Website Content Manager. This is a bargaining unit position.

The Digital Copywriter will bring writing and SEO skills to the team, enabling the digital team to further its overall online content strategy.

  1. WEBSITE CONTENT: In coordination with the Website Content Manager, coordinate and execute the overall editorial website line-up. Proactively suggest, write, edit, and publish new content and angles based on current news and organizational priorities.
  2. EMAIL CONTENT: In coordination with the Digital Strategist and Digital Outreach Specialist, assist with email copywriting and editing.
  3. GENERAL WRITING/EDITING: Work with others on the Digital Team and Communications Department generally on a wide variety of writing/editing projects (including, for example, helping prepare reports and white papers for public consumption, reviewing donor communications, preparing scripts and organizational talking points, developing written copy for multimedia projects, etc.).
  4. SUPPORT the digital team in a wide variety of initiatives (including, for example, social media, petition writing, video/podcast production, etc.) – whenever and wherever the needs arise.
  5. UNDERSTAND digital outreach and copywriting best practices and follow benchmarks. Be a thought leader for each outreach channels and suggest new initiatives and topics.
  6. COLLABORATE with other teams – especially the Development team — by providing inputs on how to develop compelling and on point online content.
  7. COORDINATE with counterparts on other teams – especially the Development team – to share and collaborate on written products and help ensure consistency in theme, tone and quality of written products across the organization.
  8. SEO STRATEGY: In coordination with Website Content Manager, implement and execute the organization’s SEO strategy.
  9. TRACK and report back on results. Identify actionable performance indicators.
  10. CARRY out other projects, as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Education/Experience:

  • Proven writing and editing skills – for online channels and offline channels – with a strong attention to detail (candidates may be asked to share a writing/editing portfolio).
  • B.A. degree in Journalism, Communication, Marketing, Public Relations or related fields, etc. preferred but not required; equivalent work experience or recognized industry certifications will be considered.
  • At least 3-4 years of experience in writing/editing, copywriting, or digital content production.
  • Experience and understanding in creating personal, engaging and creative written products for digital advocacy and fundraising (including copy for multimedia projects).
  • Excellent judgment regarding strategic and timely communications reaching supporters.
  • Expertise in website CMS (WordPress), email marketing software (Marketing Cloud) or CRM’s (Salesforce) a plus.
  • Interest in online marketing in general.
  • Non-profit experience a plus.
  • Passion for Food & Water Watch’s mission.
