Full-Time DevOps/Security/IT Engineer
Job Description
Job Responsibilities:
This person will work as part of a small team of Engineers that support DevOps, System Security, and IT. We’re looking for a hands-on individual who wants to wear many hats. You don’t need to know all of our technologies beforehand, but gradually learn them.
DevOps Responsibilities:
- Deployment, automation, management, and maintenance of AWS cloud-based production system.
Ensuring availability, performance, security, and scalability of AWS production systems. - Management of creation, release, and configuration of production systems.
- Evaluation of new technology alternatives and vendor products.
- System troubleshooting and problem resolution across various application domains and platforms.
- Provision of critical system security by leveraging best practices and prolific cloud security solutions.
- Providing recommendations for architecture and process improvements.
- Definition and deployment of systems for metrics, logging, and monitoring on AWS platform.
- Designing, maintenance and management of tools for automation of different operational processes.
Security & IT Responsibilities:
- Run diagnostic tests and analyze data to spot threats to computer systems
- Develop firewalls and other security measures to safeguard systems
- Make recommendations regarding software and hardware that can strengthen information storage and security records
- Stay up to date on the newest viruses and malware being used by cybercriminals
- Aid in the development and implementation of best practices that employees can follow to reduce the risk of data theft
- Respond to data threats to limit data loss and retake control of the system
- Write reports outlining the finding of diagnostic tests and explaining the events of cyber attacks when they occur
- Review diagnostics and assess the functionality and efficiency of systems
- Implement security measures
- Monitor security certificates and company compliance of requirements
- Track hardware and software usage across the company
- Order/reassign and configure laptops for new employees
- Collect laptops and related hardware for terminated employees
- Offer technical support to company staff and troubleshoot computer problems
- Install and update company software and hardware as needed
- Anticipate and report the cost of replacing or updating computer items
Requirements:
- Over three years of experience in provisioning, operations, and management of AWS environments.
- Demonstrated competency with the following AWS services: ECS, EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, CloudFront, SQS, EventBridge, Lambda.
- Experience with infrastructure as code tools, mainly Terraform.
- Experience in code development in at least one high-level programming language.
- Knowledge of operating system administration.
- Experience in creation of highly automated infrastructures.
- Comprehensive knowledge regarding contemporary processes and methodologies for development and operations.
- Strong understanding of how to secure AWS environments and meet compliance requirements.
- Experience with multi-tier architectures: load balancers, caching, web servers, application servers, databases, and networking.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Manage your own time and work well both independently and as part of a team
- AWS Disaster Recovery design and deployment across regions is a plus.
Location
This person will typically work in our Baltimore office (1300 Thames Street) 2 days per week and remotely 3 days a week.
