A DAY IN THE LIFE OF …

The Development Manager is an essential member of the Development team, cultivating and managing relationships within the donor community, especially in the grant industry. The ideal candidate will have excellent written, communication, and project management skills. A thorough understanding of stewardship and donor cultivation is critical. As a Development team member, this position manages communication and solicitation with corporate and individual donors and prospects. This role also provides outreach and stewardship of current and prospective foundation donors and collaborates with ongoing development efforts to meet the Council’s fundraising goals. This role is responsible for:

  • In partnership with the VP of Development, the Development Mgr provides input to and implements the Council’s giving strategy
  • Researches and evaluates corporate, foundation, government and other grant opportunities based on available resources, strategic alignment with Council goals, and potential for success
  • Partners with Council staff to identify funding needs and use those needs as funding targets
  • Works with GSU partners (Board, Council staff, etc.) to ensure their expectations are being met
  • Leads giving campaigns such as staff appeal and end of year appeal
  • Works with Council staff to ensure that all commitments to the donor/council are being met
  • Provides professional, high-quality customer service to funding agencies, donors, members, volunteers, staff, and other community contacts
  • Ensures integrity of all donor data, in all tools and applications
  • Maintains Development library of grants and proposal modules
  • Partners with VP of Development and/or GSU Fund Development Committee to identify event opportunities, plan and execute events, and report

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Min 3-5 yrs professional fundraising experience in nonprofit organizations, including grant writing
  • Excellent written, verbal, and listening skills
  • Demonstrated discretion and respect for confidential information
  • Advanced computer skills and extensive experience with digital communication
    • Proficiency with Blackbaud/Raiser’s Edge experience a PLUS!
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong analytic skills
  • Proven ability to exercise good and independent judgment, consistent follow-through
  • Proven ability plan and act strategically, tactfully, and creatively
  • Ability to work flexible and changing schedules, including evenings and weekends

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL POSITIONS @ GSU:

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, including sex-offender registries and driving records
  • Must complete Youth Protection Training within first week of employment/recertify every 3yrs
  • Strong commitment to the mission and values of Girl Scouts of Utah
  • Service-oriented team player able to work in an inclusive manner with staff/volunteers from diverse backgrounds and across all levels of the organization
