Full-Time Development Director

Job Description

Work Hours: 40 hours/week with some nights and weekends 

Compensation: $45,000

OVERVIEW

The Development Director is responsible for creating, implementing, and communicating an annual and long-term development strategy. With exceptional communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team the Development Director will contribute to the strategic expansion of Grand Canyon Youth’s (GCY’s) mission.

The Development Director reports to the Executive Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising 30%

  • Identify, cultivate and solicit major donors with support from the Executive Director.
  • Produce multi-channel annual fund appeal.
  • Manage the recording and receipt of all donor gifts.
  • Research and write grant proposals to support GCY’s strategic objectives. 

Donor Stewardship  20%

  • Support individual giving initiatives through donor communications such as writing and distributing publications such as the annual report, fundraising appeals, and newsletters. 
  • Support fulfillment of grant expectations through thorough communication, tracking and collaboration with GCY staff. 

Events 10%

  • Lead or assist with fundraising events including setting event goals, securing venues, promotion, and sponsorship.
  • Utilize volunteers to assist with fundraising activities. 

Communication  20%

  • Developing messaging in support of GCY’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Review and update website content.
  • Create and implement a social media plan.

Admin  10%

  • Database entry.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate GCY’s mission.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with donors, community members, co-workers, stakeholders, and the GCY Board of Directors.
  • Knowledge of the basic functions of a nonprofit organization, including fundraising and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully build and create rather than maintain the status quo.
  • Knowledge of use and practices for successful social media use. 
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn media and design skills. 
  • Willingness to work as part of a professional small nonprofit team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience with data/records management and upkeep.
  • Ability to remain flexible in a dynamic work environment

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or lived experience demonstrating ability to learn, think critically, and work well with others of varying backgrounds.
  • Experience with fundraising for non-profit organizations.
  • Experience in successful grant writing, donor communications, and relationship management.
  • Pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
  • Comfortable using common office equipment, including computers and printers, and google suite or a willingness to learn.
  • An understanding of or willingness to go on GCY’s multi-day river expeditions with youth or donors.
