Access Now is a growing international human rights organization dedicated to defending and extending the digital rights of users at risk around the world, including issues of privacy, security, freedom of expression, and transparency. Our policy, advocacy, technology, and operations teams have staff presences in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East/North Africa (MENA), North America, and South/Southeast Asia, to provide global support to our mission.

About this role

The Development Coordinator, Partnerships will coordinate Access Now’s growing portfolio of sponsorships, commitments from the private sector, and more. Sponsorships are essential to Access Now’s ability to host RightsCon, the world’s leading conference on human rights in the digital age, which brings together human rights activists, business leaders, technologists, and government representatives to share ideas and build strategies every year. Commitments from the private sector support RightsCon and other initiatives at Access Now. Top candidates will have an entrepreneurial spirit, experience working with many different stakeholders from different sectors and backgrounds, and be creative and ambitious in making this new but vital role their own. This position will report to the Development Director, and works closely with other members of the Development team as well as the RightsCon team, Finance team, and Executive Director.

What you will do

 

RightsCon

  • Track and monitor sponsorship commitments for RightsCon
    • Coordinate the review and signing of sponsorship agreements
    • Coordinate the submission of invoices and receipt of funds
    • Coordinate the implementation of sponsorship benefits
  • Lead the development and management of  sponsorship related materials and content
  • Facilitate engagement with a portfolio of about 40 existing sponsors, as well as outreach to new and potential sponsors
  • Prepare and submit related concept notes, reports, and/or correspondence as needed
  • Identify and coordinate outreach to new prospective sponsors
  • Review and analyze sponsorship data to identify trends and insights
  • Inform, support, and help execute our approach to sponsorship

Private Sector Development

  • Track and monitor funding commitments from the private sector
    • Coordinate the submission of invoices and receipt of funds
  • Facilitate engagement with a portfolio of about 10 existing and potential donors from the private sector
  • Prepare and submit related concept notes, reports, and/or correspondence as needed
  • Identify and coordinate outreach to new prospective donors from the private sector
  • Review and analyze data to provide regular insight on funding commitments from the private sector
  • Inform, support, and help execute our approach to funding commitments from the private sector

Other 

  • Support and expand our outreach to and fundraising commitments from high net-worth individuals, small family foundations, and/or philanthropy advisors
  • Strengthen donor engagement, including via communications (ex newsletter) and donor-related events
  • Coordinate regular updates to the Access Now’s Financials page (accessnow.org/financials)

  • Strong project management skills, with meticulous attention to detail

  • Experience working with many different stakeholders from different backgrounds and sectors
  • Persuasive communication skills, with the ability to develop simple and compelling messages
  • Ability to build rapport with donors, with a focus on being responsive, personable, and tactful
  • Ability to thrive and work effectively as part of a small team while remaining self-motivated
  • Strategic and tactical thinker, as adept at solving problems as you are at identifying them
  • Ability to translate numbers into meaningful insights to adapt strategies as needed
  • Knowledge of and passion for Access Now’s mission and work
  • Experience with Salesforce or comparable CRM database preferred

The Details

Location

This is a full-time position, aligned with our New York City or Washington, DC office presences, but also open to Berlin, Brussels, San José (CR), or Tunis. At this time most Access Now Team Members are working through hybrid office arrangements, combining remote at-home work with intermittent use of offices and/or co-working spaces. The successful candidate must possess the right to work in the location in which they will be based. We are unable to sponsor visas or relocations for this role.

Remuneration

Access Now offers competitive compensation in line with skills and experience, and benefits packages that align with our office localities. Initial placement within the salary range for this role is anticipated between $60,000 and $70,000 USD gross annually, and will be determined by depth of experience and preparation.
