Position description:
Salzburg Global Seminar is seeking a Development Associate, Individual Giving to support our Individual Giving and fundraising team. The Development Associate is an important member of the Development Team, focusing on individual giving and supporting Salzburg Global’s Inspiring Leadership Campaign. The Development Associate it directly responsible for supporting our ambitious organizational fundraising goals and for generating unrestricted giving and contributions from individual donors and supporters around the world.
The Development Associate performs a range of activities designed to enhance the effectiveness and improve the results of Salzburg Global’s individual giving and campaign efforts, with a focus on supporting the successful completion of our Inspiring Leadership Campaign in 2022.
Responsibilities, dependent on skills and experience, will include:
- Donor Outreach and Appeals: Support the design and implementation of our annual and individual giving outreach and appeals, writing direct mail appeals and working with the Program, Development, Communications, and Campaign teams to develop effective appeals and special solicitations.
- Giving Pipeline and Tracking Systems: Manage our Individual Giving Pipeline and data tracking systems, including tracking appeals, updating and analyzing individual gifts, reporting on fundraising progress, developing metrics and data that can support continuous engagement with donors, and improving the effectiveness of individual giving systems to improve fundraising results.
- Campaign Support: Support the President and CEO’s office, and colleagues across departments, to organize and facilitate campaign-related solicitation and outreach, including planning meetings, calls, and follow up with individual donors and prospects; managing the Campaign Dashboard; assisting with the preparation and drafting of individualized appeal letters to high-profile prospects; and working with members of Salzburg Global’s Senior Management and Campaign Committee to steward new donors and gifts.
- Prospect Research: Research prospective donors by preparing bios, analyzing giving history and program-related interests, and generating materials for meetings and calls with individual major donors and/or Campaign prospects.
- Data Records and Systems: Maintain annual individual giving and campaign records, including all notes and information resulting from donor meetings, calls, and visits, in our database; ensure effective communication with Salzburg Global staff about prospects and gifts received; and work with our finance staff to ensure accurate gift reporting and acknowledgement.
Qualifications:
- Minimum two to three years of professional development experience related to supporting or leading an individual giving and annual giving programs, including experience in appeals and annual giving fundraising.
- Strong interest in engaging potential donors on issues relevant to Salzburg Global’s work.
- Excellent writing and project management skills.
- A critical thinker, highly organized, and detail oriented.
- Experience and proficiency with Raiser’s Edge or other fundraising databases.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with rapidly shifting priorities.
- Ability to build relationships and work effectively with colleagues in multiple divisions/departments to increase awareness of development programs and engage in donor cultivation and solicitation.
- Demonstrated interest in mission-driven, international organizations.
Compensation:
- $45,000-$55,000/per year and commensurate with experience
- 25 days annual paid vacation
- Paid health insurance and retirement plans +
- A modest relocation package will be offered for candidates outside of the Washington, DC area
