Job Description
The Hunger Project (THP) is a global non-profit organization whose mission is to end hunger and poverty by pioneering sustainable, grassroots, women-centered strategies and advocating for their widespread adoption in countries throughout the world. We operate in 22 countries with 330 staff and have mobilized hundreds of thousands of volunteer leaders worldwide. Our programs throughout Africa, South Asia and Latin America are based on an innovative, holistic approach, which empowers women and men living in rural villages to become the agents of their own development and make sustainable progress in overcoming hunger and poverty.
Current Hunger Project office locations include:
USA: Global functions and US Fundraising functions are primarily located in New York City and Washington DC, as well as in multiple home offices.
13 Program Countries: Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Malawi, Mexico, Mozambique, Peru, Senegal, Uganda, Zambia.
9 Partner Countries: Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom.
Position Summary
The Development Associate is a collaborative, supportive and organized individual, with a strong ability to manage multiple projects and timelines. The Development Associate is a key partner to and directly report to the Global Vice President who leads business development, fundraising, communications, and support to global governance bodies. The role will collaborate across departments, and work regularly with the Executive Team and country leaders, as well as fundraising colleagues worldwide. As such, this is an opportunity for an entry-level professional to gain experience across multiple functional areas, all while being part of a dynamic and passionate team, whose purpose is to mobilize, sustain and expand the worldwide constituency of individuals and organizations who are committed to creating a world without hunger.
This full-time position is based out of THP’s Office in New York City, and remote candidates are welcome to apply, with a strong preference for candidates based in the NYC area. The position reports to the Global Vice President, Fundraising and Communications, and is non-exempt from overtime.
The salary range for this position is $45,000 – $50,000USD, not including an annualized cafeteria plan allowance currently fixed at $18,000. The candidate must have eligibility to work in the U.S. and must not require visa sponsorship in the future.
Essential Functions
Essential Function 1: Assistant to the Global Vice President, Fundraising & Communications
• Schedule and manage a calendar of regular meetings among global fundraising colleagues, preparing agendas and materials in close partnership with the Vice President.
• Prepare spreadsheets and reports to support department strategies.
• Support the Vice President in processing invoices, expense reports, timesheets, and internal agreements.
• Manage travel arrangements, and direct logistics for any in-person international meetings among fundraisers.
• Serve as a point of contact for global colleagues to facilitate timely communication.
Essential Function 2: Global Governance Support
• In close partnership with the Global Vice President, manage reporting process for governance bodies, including the Global Board of Directors and its Committees, and the Partner Country Advisory Council, liaising with senior leaders across country offices to compile and present required information.
• Support the Executive Team in the preparation of agendas and documentation for meetings of governance bodies.
• Coordinate logistics for in-person and telephonic gatherings of Board Members.
• Maintain electronic and, when necessary, paper archives, of Global Board minutes and documentation.
• Facilitate organization accountability practices, by monitoring adherence to best practices for non-profit organizations, submitting annual questionnaires and information requests to watchdog agencies, and maintaining policy and key document review schedules.
Essential Function 3: Department Support
• Maintain departmental records, including grant and contract-related documents in partnership with the Program Partnership Development team, and support team in ensuring internal databases are up to date (e.g., grants database, budget platform, Salesforce).
• Provide administrative support to Planned Giving and FeelGood youth engagement programs, in partnership with department colleagues.
• Copyedit and format reports, proposals, and fundraising collateral.
• Facilitate contract reviews and payment processing for grants and sub-contractors.
• Actively participate on core teams for engagement activities, such as the annual Fall Event and youth engagement programs.
Other
• Participate in a collegial office environment including office-wide initiatives outside of your own job area, such as the Youth Advisory Council or Anti-Racist Action Group.
• Travel to NYC office at least quarterly, if remote.
Qualifications
1. Education (Minimum Needed and Type of Degree Needed):
● Minimum Required: Bachelor’s degree.
● Preferred: degree preferably with a major or minor in fields relating to international affairs.
2. Work Experience (Minimum needed)
● Minimum Required: Two years of related experience.
● Preferred: Non-profit setting with remote team structure, and experience in a fast-paced environment with a small team.
3. Specialized Knowledge Needed for Job Performance
● Knowledge of international development landscape of issues, organizations, and funders
● Proficiency with Excel
4. Skills (e.g., Level of Judgment Required, Ability to Direct, Work Independently, Multi-Task, etc.):
● Strong writing skills.
● Superior organization skills and attention to detail.
● Resourceful self-starter with ability to independently multi-task and prioritize.
● High level of comfort with new technologies, and able to quickly learn new tools.
● Strong teamwork and collaboration skills; ability to work with colleagues and partners nationally and internationally.
● Ability to adapt and work in a very flexible, fluid, and evolving environment.
5. Special Skills (Technical or Advanced)
● High level of knowledge with Google Suite and tools.

● Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.

● On occasion, ability to work a varying schedule including nights, early mornings, weekends.

● Experience working with different countries and cultures.
