Full-Time Designer, TED Countdown

Job Description

TED is looking for an experienced Designer to join the Media team’s Brand Creative department. Our focus is the creative work that forms TED’s brand. We create, maintain, and evolve TED’s brand standards and the identities of our initiatives, conferences, podcasts, and special projects.

This role will be primarily focused on supporting Countdown, a climate-focused collaboration between TED and Future Stewards. More information on the initiative is available here: https://countdown.ted.com/

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Use the Countdown identity system and style guide to create a wide range of materials, including documents, presentations, social media graphics, environmental graphics/signage, program guides, digital marketing, screen environments, merchandise and more
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to understand needs and timelines
  • Present design work and concepts with clarity to stakeholders
  • Liaise with print vendors for accurate and high quality execution of various print and signage projects (in 2021)
  • Understand how to receive feedback and provide constructive feedback to other team members
  • Move quickly between projects and tasks and handle shifting priorities in stride

You are a fast, detail-oriented designer with experience working within a branding system. You have an excellent understanding of typography and color. You are a conceptual visual thinker and can move projects from cradle to completion. You have created work with digital and print, and are familiar with print processes and production. You have experience utilizing photography in graphic design.

As a team member, no task is too big or too small, and you are happy to take the lead on a project as well as assist your teammates in the execution of their vision. You can clearly communicate your line of thinking and ideas, and can also truly hear constructive feedback and use it to improve your work. You are committed to the health of the team as a whole.

This position will report to the Associate Art Director.

We’re looking for someone with

5+ years of graphic design experience.

A broad range of interests. You live and breathe graphic design but are also contributing skills such as illustration, motion graphics, photography, sculpting, painting, filmmaking, etc. All creative entry points welcome.

Expert fluency in common design tools and applications. You speak the language of Adobe Creative Cloud effortlessly.

Strong organizational skills. You understand the importance of keeping your files tidy at every stage of a project, from the conceptual stage to the delivery of mechanicals.

Flexibility. TED is a fast-paced environment, and we jump quickly from project to project. You can keep up and thrive off the energy of working on something new.

A love for TED Talks and a deeply curious mind about the world is a plus!

Your current location is flexible, but you’ll need to work US East coast or West coast hours. Once it is safe, this position will be based in TED’s Manhattan office.
