Job description
As a WOME (Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives) Logistics Operative you will provide support to receive, store, maintain and issue the range of General Munitions (GM) and Complex Weapons (CW) as mandated by the MoD to equip the Armed Services. The role will normally work under the supervision of a WOME Logistics Lead Operative, although it is not unusual to work remotely from the supervisor/delivery manager in undertaking storage and logistic tasks. You will be required to work on a range of associated documentation and IT Support, all to ensure that our armed forces are correctly supported and supplied in a timely and effective fashion.
As a multi-skilled individual capable of being flexible, you will also operate a range of mechanical handling equipment. While this role mainly works in our warehouses other essential tasks will be required such as berthing, loading and unberthing RN, RFA ships on our deep-water Jetty, operating fixed machinery and shoring ISO Containers on a tasking basis where required. Above all, you will be passionate about safety and process, closely following the guidance and procedures that mean ammunition and explosives are handled in a safe, effective and consistent fashion.
Responsibilities
We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated, hard-working and organised individual who can work in a pressurised, customer-focused environment to tight timescales while remaining positive and focused on delivery. Given the nature of the role, the ability to readily engage with a wide variety of stakeholders up to and including team leader / manager level is also essential.
Key duties, will include:
* Knowledgeable in the through life management of explosive and non-explosive inventory warehousing activities including road and waterfront support.
* Ensure all routine and/or priority receipts and issues are thoroughly checked, paperwork or computer records are correctly completed.
* Handle munitions and explosives in a safe and efficient manner to comply with Safe Systems of Work including authorised procedures, risk assessments, manual handling & COSHH.
* Assist with stuffing, destuffing of ISO Containers.
* Carry out Certified Free From Explosives (CFFE) inspections.
* Able to operate a variety of Mechanical Handling Equipment (cranes and vehicles) and be proficient in the use of hand tools/wood working equipment as required for their duties.
* Carry out all manual/mechanical operations in a safe and recognised manner to comply with local and departmental policy and procedures.
* Assist with all logistics and storage activities to ensure that customers’ requirements are met on time and in full, this may include working on-board HM Ships and other military establishments.
* As directed, assist other team members or carry out additional ad-hoc tasks appropriate to the role.
At times work will be conducted in an unusually difficult environment including working outside in poor weather or working at heights. The working environment can vary and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times.
