Job description

Defence Munition Longtown is one of seven Munitions storage and processing sites in the UK. This role will act as a key member of the Site Management Team, with responsibility for all Explosive Account Control matters across the site, as well as acting as the focal point for liaison with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, Delivery Partner / Service Provider for Infrastructure Management within the Longtown Defence Munitions estate.

As a member of the site management team, and managing your own small but highly skilled function, you will report directly to the Head of Establishment functioning as both infrastructure focal point and Subject Matter Expert on all Explosive Account Control, potentially including occasional cover for the Head of Establishment.

While Material Accounting is a key part of your role, it is important that you have a forward thinking and solution- orientated mindset that is open to a continuous improvement approach and you are comfortable influencing your staff and stakeholders to buy into the positive changes you will make as the site, and your role continues to develop and evolve.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the safe management and control of Storage Planning and Movements Planning, ensuring compliance with all Legislative and Regulatory requirements as well as the accurate stock management of a range of Munitions. Management of the site infrastructure portfolio, including the Site Development Plan involves interaction with Defence Infrastructure Organisation and the onsite Delivery Partner / Service Provider.

As you will be managing a range of staff and interacting with a variety of military and civilian stakeholders, your strong communication, influencing and leadership skills combined with a calm, collected and collaborative but robust manner are essential to be successful in the post.

You will possess a strong understanding of, and be able to apply risk management. You will be a strong team player, with excellent judgement and deferring to others on topics outside your own area of expertise.

The successful candidate will have previous experience in the following areas:

• Ideally, practical experience managing / accounting / storing / transporting Munitions or other hazardous, high consequence dangerous goods
• Defence or another sector such as oil and gas
• Management of a small – medium size team
• Excellent communication skills and comfortable dealing with staff and colleagues at all levels
• Infrastructure management
• Understanding of ISO Quality Management Systems (such as ISO 9001:2015)

It would be highly advantageous but not essential for the successful candidate to have a knowledge and experience in systems such as:

• AMANDA (Ammunition Management Area Networked Depot Assistance)
• ASTRID (Ammunition System Two Revised Interactive Development)
• MJDI (Management of the Joint Deployed Inventory)
• BOB (Business Objects)
*Prior experience in a similar position with knowledge of Control of Major Accidents and Hazards Regulations, and associated emergency procedures and plans.

Please note the below:

*You will be required to operate on-call during silent hours as the Major Accident Control Regulations Liaison Officer, including on-site attendance within a specified time frame.
*You may be required to operate as Duty Control Officer, including on-site overnight and at weekends as Duty Control Officer.
*This role involves travel to other locations across the UK and, occasionally, overseas.
*Due to the rural location of the MOD Longtown site, you will need to have your own transport, as there are no public transport options close by.
*Parking is available on site.
