DE&S and the SDA are integral parts of UK Defence supporting our Armed Forces across Land, Sea, Air, Strategic and Nuclear Submarines; responsibilities include procurement, in service support and disposal. Our work is of unparalleled strategic importance and delivers some of the most technically complex programmes in Defence.
We are currently recruiting for Principal Risk Managers within both the SDA and DE&S where you will provide strategic leadership and direction to risk staff and act as a subject matter expert providing advice across high complexity and high-risk projects within the Project Controls function.
Working as part of the SDA, you will become a Principal Risk Manager within delivery, working on one of the biggest programmes within defence. You will be a crucial go-to contact for interpretation and interrogation of data, lead a risk management team and provide risk assurance within the team.
DE&S are looking for a Principal Risk Manager to come into the Project Controls function and work closely with our Function Management Team in a people orientated lead position looking after the risk community. You will have a varied position including capacity and training whilst also providing guidance and being a first point of contact for risk related policy, procedure, questions and queries.
Please note, due to the nature of these posts regular travel may be required to other MOD sites. Due to security requirements, posts may be reserved for sole UK Nationals only.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited too –
• Develop and implements risk discipline training programmes for junior risk employees to ensure necessary skillset and capability
• To facilitate all aspects of collection, organisation and interpretation of complex supplier risk and modelling data for incorporation into DE&S/SDA risk understanding and profiles
• Provides direct risk management input to proposals, strategic plans, stakeholder presentations, and contract negotiations at the OC, Domain or Function level
• To communicate key project and Programme threat and opportunity management data to key member of the project, programme and DE&S leadership and be able to recommend key items for escalation within the business
• Perform audits to ensure the quality of programme and project risk management and associated risk analysis of estimating and planning/scheduling
• Oversee the writing and maintenance of Risk Management Plans
• To communicate with and influence Leadership within DE&S/SDA Projects and portfolios and Supply chain within the risk technical field
What you will be assessed against
To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
• Significant working knowledge within a Senior Risk Management role
• Significant experience and understanding of working with industry within a risk management position
• Working knowledge of schedule risk analysis and cost risk analysis
• Experience managing a team
• Proven experience of stakeholder management
It would benefit your application should you be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
• Risk-specific knowledge equivalent to a degree (e.g. in a technical, engineering, scientific, business or other numerate subject) and APM Project Risk Management (PRM) Single Subject Certificate Level 1 and Level 2 and hold or be prepared to work towards the Institute of Risk Management (IRM) International Certificate in Enterprise Risk Management. May also hold APM RPP, APM PMQ or APM PPQ.
