Job description

Dynamic and progressive opportunities for Mechanical Engineers have arisen within the Engineering Function of Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) and the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA).

Our Engineering function enables the delivery of equipment and support by providing specialist expertise in domain-related disciplines. These opportunities sit within the SDA, and the Land and Maritime domains of DE&S, and offer you the opportunity to work within diverse and multi-disciplined teams.

Please note that, due to security requirements, some of these posts are reserved for sole UK nationals and some will require Developed Vetting (DV) clearance, which will be discussed at point of allocation and you must be willing and able to go through.

Responsibilities

In these roles, you will support development and delivery of activity, including engaging with stakeholders to ensure systems or equipment are safe by design and remain safe to operate. Your main accountabilities and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
– Delivery of engineering activity in your area of responsibility, as defined in the assignment specification or objectives
– Development and management of engineering requirements, from definition to assessment and through contractual change
– Management of the verification, validation and acceptance process for system and User requirements
– Participating in verification activities for system requirements
– Management of technical risk, ensuring they are understood and managed
– Provide advice in your area of expertise, to guide and influence senior leaders and decision makers
– Contribute to, produce and maintain Engineering Management Plans, and deliver the products and/or services specified
– Determine quality management and assurance approaches

What you will be assessed against
To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

• You will hold a minimum of a Level 4 (e.g. HNC) qualification in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant subject, or will demonstrate equivalent relevant experience
• You will hold Professionally Registration status with a relevant engineering body, or will demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and experience

It would benefit your application should you be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

• Some posts within the Maritime domain or SDA may benefit from you having experience from within a maritime and/or manufacturing environment
• Certain posts would benefit from you having Systems Integration or Naval Architecture qualifications and/or experience
