Job description
World class Defence Equipment requires world class maintenance and support to sustain its capability in the most challenging environments around the globe.
As an Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Practitioner you will be interested in a challenging and rewarding career to help shape the future development and implementation of innovative support solutions for some of the most complex, dynamic and cutting-edge technology used by the UK Armed Forces.
Working collaboratively with a range of other specialists you will utilise ILS methodologies to assist in the planning and delivery of technical support arrangements for military platforms or equipment.
This could range from designing a support solution from concept through to manufacture, to optimising support during its in-service phase to supporting the efficient disposal of equipment at its end of life. You will be working collaboratively, with designers in industry and the armed forces as end users, to provide the cost effective and technically cutting-edge support solutions required by the wide range of equipment used in defence.
This might cover in-the-field support robust enough for the Army’s Apache helicopters, or the state-of-the-art maintenance required by the RAF’s latest Lightning II aircraft or providing sophisticated support techniques needed for the RN’s recently announced Type 31 Frigate.
Responsibilities
• Contributing to the definition and development of the platform/ equipment’s ILS plan and associated documentation using ILS methodologies.
• In liaison with colleagues develop, implement and optimise support solutions through the provision of relevant, timely and accurate support information, data and analysis.
• Assist colleagues set, manage and improve platform/ equipment availability, reliability and sustainability targets considering levels of failure, repair and engineering service requirements.
• Help define, manage and adjust Service contract arrangements.
• Provide specialist technical support, e.g. tools, test equipment, software, training, technical documentation and publications.
• Assist with the design and introduce platform/equipment updates and upgrades ensuring due diligence to all aspects of ILS.
• Provide specialist obsolescence support working with other specialists to manage platform/equipment obsolescence and ensure adherence to the platform/equipment Obsolescence Plan.
• Support the planning for platform/equipment end-of-service life.
• Identify and mitigate the management of Technical Through Life Support Risks.
Due to security requirements, some of the posts are reserved for Sole UK Nationals Only and some will require more in depth security checks (Developed Vetting).
What you will be assessed against
To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essentialcriteria:
• Experience of working in at least one of the following fields: ILS, engineering, supportability, or technical operations management
• Proven track record of delivering product support, equipment support solutions and/or optimisation of product performance
• Demonstrate knowledge of ILS methodologies and processes
• Ability to assist with the development of the ILS planning activities
It would benefit your application should be able to demonstrate the following desirablecriteria:
• Working towards membership of a professional body. Eg Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) at Eng Tech or IEng level, or membership of Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).

About your team
The Integrated Logistics (iLog) Function is the integrating Function for Support within DE&S, responsible for the development, management and delivery of in-service support for our front-line command customers. The iLog Function consists of around 2,900 personnel, both civil servants and military, and with a wide range of disciplines ranging from operations management and supply chain management, technical through-life support and logistics delivery, to modelling and analysis.
