Are you a highly capable, credible individual with the requisite gravitas to build positive and engaged relationships in a complex and ever-evolving environment? The Integrated Logistics (iLog) Function has opportunities for high performing Domain Function Managers (DFM)/Function Leads in the Land and Ships domains and SDA at the Senior Professional level.
These assignments carry considerable responsibility as you will be accountable for leading a domain function team, providing support to and directly reporting to the Domain Chief Operating Officer by;
• Contributing to the development of the function specific strategy and plans and ensuring implementation of relevant policies across the function and wider business, and contributing to the governance and reporting of the iLog function;
• Leading workforce planning and resource planning, identifying capacity and skill gaps within your area of responsibility and liaising with relevant stakeholders to recruit, train, develop and retain staff to enhance capacity and capability within the iLog Function;
• Leading on the Domain elements of specific Functional initiatives such as Diversity & Inclusion, efficiency, and process rationalisation.
The role provides considerable opportunity to liaise and to partner with stakeholders at all levels, influencing and managing their capacity/capability needs to achieve the business priorities. One day may find you working with the Head of iLog Function and Delivery Teams / Business Managers; another with the Recruitment, HR or corporate communications teams or even technical staff to provide suitably skilled and experienced people to deliver the iLog activities that the your domain needs to support the end customer, our armed forces. You will also work closely with your peers in other functions across the domain and in the other domains to drive resource allocation and acquisition to ensure effective use of available capability and resources to meet frequently changing domain-led, resourcing needs. And ensure that key messages and initiatives are cascaded through the iLog community.
This is a challenging and highly involved post that requires sound judgement, first-rate influencing skills and a deep understanding of DE&S and SDA priorities at both a strategic and operational level to manage the ever-changing picture and needs. A practical, positive and results-orientated approach combined with knowledge of our operations is essential to succeed as you will often need to determine which role is a priority at what time.
In short, this is a challenging post that frequently interfaces directly with our Senior Leadership Group (SLG) as well as senior military staff and functional team members; both partnering and driving the utilisation of our capability and capacity while retaining a ‘big picture’ perspective across the domain, the function and the wider Business.
It’s not all hard work and difficult judgements however; this role also manages a sizeable community of Functional Development Officers, providing you the opportunity to further shape the function by guiding and developing them in their management of staff performance, and you will also interface with or perform functional reviews and project reviews to ensure our people are being utilised effectively as well as identify any skill gaps or emergent requirements. We want you to be at the forefront of driving professionalism, career guidance and development opportunities both on an individual and a process/methodology basis by providing career path guidance, career and performance management solutions and associated coaching and mentoring, as required.
Responsibilities
To be successful, it is essential that you can demonstrate:
• Previous experience, judgement and understanding of defence, military related businesses;
• Previous experience in senior management in a delivery environment at an operational level within one of the iLog disciplines within a large, complex organisation in both steady state and through transformational change;
• Experience of developing strategy and leading multi-function teams through changes that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery of outputs to the customer;
• Experience of leading a team and working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to deliver iLog activity and services at Corporate or Domain level via an integrated and co-ordinated cross-functional approach which had a significant impact on the achievement of delivery objectives for the iLog Function;
• Exceptional organisational, influencing and communication skills with proven leadership capabilities;
• Very strong prioritisation and interpersonal skills with significant experience in a complex matrix-based entity as well as experience working within a logistics or support solution environment;

Our Integrated Logistics (iLog) function is the integrating Function for Support within DE&S and the SDA, responsible for the development, management and delivery of in-service support for our front-line command customers. The iLog Function consists of around 2,900 personnel, both civil servants and military, and with a wide range of disciplines ranging from operations management and supply chain management, technical through-life support and logistics delivery, to modelling and analysis.
