Job description

We currently have multiple exciting vacancies available across both DE&S and SDA for Estimators based out of MOD Abbey Wood.

DE&S are an integral part of UK Defence and the available position will see you specialising within the Air Domain working as part of the Combat Air Acquisitions Programme (CAAP) and see you play a pivotal role in providing the next generation of combat aircraft.

The SDA (Submarine Delivery Agency) is responsible for the procurement, in service support and disposal of the UK’s nuclear submarines. The SDA’s work is of unparalleled strategic importance and delivers some of the most technically complex programmes in Defence.

Successful candidates will take lead roles within the estimating discipline to provide robust support across a variety of high value and complex projects and portfolios. Using a wide range of skills and technical knowledge, you will provide guidance and leadership both to your team and customers whilst also supporting the Project Controls wider function with recruitment, training and development activities.

This is a varied and challenging position, and will see you working as part of a multi-disciplinary Project Controls Function alongside Risk Management, Planning & Scheduling and more; you will work alongside suppliers and stakeholders providing key guidance and ensuring cost estimate outputs are interpreted correctly and communicated properly.

Due to security requirements, 2 of these posts will be reserved for sole UK Nationals only.

Responsibilities

These roles would suit Estimators with a proven track record of delivering high standard estimates associated with a range of major complex projects/programmes, a background in the defence sector is ideal, however we welcome applications from a broad spectrum of industries and sectors.

You will be expected to undertake the following responsibilities:

• Review and approve estimates for high profile projects, including the Basis of Estimate (BoE)
• Deliver robust and high quality Project Controls outputs, analysis, quality assurance and provide advice to Project Managers and Delivery Teams
• Work alongside a wide rang of stakeholders within DE&S, the MOD and externally, discussing complex data in a way that is easy to interpret with clear recommendations
• Manage and prioritise forward work plans, assigning correct personnel to each task

What you will be assessed against

To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

• Significant experience of cost estimating in a project/programme environment
• Broad understanding of one of the following – Risk Management / Cost Control / Planning & Scheduling
• Experience reviewing and approving estimates for projects, including the Basis of Estimate (BoE)

It would benefit your application should be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

• Knowledge of the Defence sector
• Knowledge and experience which meets the standards required to attain full membership of APM (or equivalent)
• Certified membership of ICEAA or ‘Incorporated’ accreditation with ACostE
