Corporate Services offers a challenging and stimulating variety of work in both delivery and support teams. The function utilises the expertise of eight specialisms that collectively enable the operational day-to-day running of the business to ensure that DE&S/SDA delivers its objectives and maintains compliance with the requirements of being part of a Department of State. We cover: Business Support; Comms, Media & Marketing; Infrastructure & Estate Management; Policy Profession; Sales & Disposals; Occupational Health, Safety & Environment; Quality Management; and Security.

As Business Manager you will play a pivotal role across the Corporate Services function. Engaging with multiple stakeholders across the business, and relevant third parties, you will develop best practice and implement relevant strategies, policies and processes, in order to meet business requirements with a strong customer focus.

This is a challenging, broad and varied role which will allow you to enhance and develop your stakeholder management, analytical, and managerial skills, as well as problem-solving capability. You will be effective in making decisions, and able to work autonomously in the management of resources. This is an excellent opportunity for you to progress your influencing and communication skills, whilst delivering an excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities as Business Manager will include:

• Engaging with multiple stakeholders across the business and relevant third parties to develop best practice and implement relevant strategies, policies and processes which meet business requirement.
• Providing advice and ensuring effective business management services on a day to day level to multiple stakeholders, managing a team of direct reports.
• Acting as a function lead for workforce planning, talent management and the management of policy, process and performance.
• Acting as a focal point for internal communications and secretariat business, including parliamentary, freedom of information and media enquiries.
• Coordinating and supporting implementation of small-scale continuous improvement across delivery team.
• Developing team members including identifying training and coaching needs specific to their subject areas and the implementation of relevant training and briefings across the business.
• Developing and operating customer service ethos within business service provision, measuring performance and driving continuous improvement of those services.
• Operating governance and assurance processes.
• Managing the development and the delivery of Command Acquisition Support Plan (CASP) and Information Services Plan (ISP) in support to management.

Due to the secure nature of positions, some posts will be reserved for Sole UK Nationals only.

What you will be assessed against

To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

• Experience of working within a large and highly complex organisation.
• Knowledge of business operations.
• Strong people management skills.

It would benefit your application should you be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

• Membership of a professional body.
• A degree/NVQ Level 5 Business Admin & Management or equivalent.
• Experience of working in professional/technical roles, including management of teams.
