Quality Managers within DE&S is complex with multi-faceted roles involving a wide range of responsibilities and priorities. In this post you will play a key independent role in developing and delivering Quality Management and Assurance to ISO 9001, and evolving improvement initiatives. Through this function you will participate in an extensive training programme with a long-term goal to gain a MoD Quality Management License followed by Chartered professional status through the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI). You will then become a recognised Government Assurance and Improvement (GAI) subject matter expert.
As the Quality Manager for Defence Munitions Head Office (DMHO), you will be responsible for DM Quality Management System to enable the business to meet its strategic objectives in the delivery of Quality Management.
This will include maintaining ISO 9001 certification, acting as the key Subject Matter Expert interface and focal point for depot Quality Management specialists and the Certification Body. You will be responsible for driving Improvements and Learning from Experience (LFE) campaigns and initiatives pan DM including managing the transition from individual depot and Head Office ISO9001 certificates to one corporate certificate. You will be required to standardise policies, procedures and business practices across business.
Part of the DE&S delivery is to provide munitions to our Front-Line Commands and suppliers. The incumbent may be based at any one of 7 DE&S DM’s sites located within the UK (DM Crombie, DM Glen Douglas, DM Beith, DM Longtown, DM Kineton, DM Gosport, DM Plymouth) or indeed at DE&S Head Quarters at Abbeywood, Bristol.
Responsibilities
The Corporate Services Group (CSG) Function, Quality Management (QM) Specialism has posts all around the UK and is responsible for ensuring an effective management system of operational governance is in place, mitigating enterprise level risks through a programme of independent assurance of DE&S ways of working and the outputs that are produced.
The key areas of responsibility are:
• Developing, maintaining the DM Quality Strategy and Policy, Quality Manual, Quality Plans and associated Quality documentation and records
• Drive effective Governance, Assurance and Improvement/LFE approach
• Provide Quality Management technical advice and guidance and support Quality Investigations
• Manage the maintenance of the business processes working with the document Sponsors
• Manage support to ensure appropriate management reviews are held and the any appropriate information is produced, then represent QM at meetings
• Leading, planning and undertaking independent risk based internal quality audits and completing the reports
• Manage timely stakeholder and customer engagement by arranging meetings and events
• Manages the capture of Root Causes of non-conformances, analyse and present trend data
• Manage the maintenance or implementation of the Business Management System including the Configuration Management of control aspects
• Maintain the ISO 9001 certification and the manage the transitioning from multi depot certificates into a single corporate certificate
• Collate, present and analyse data to present to Senior management to enable informed decisions
• Manage to improve the awareness of quality, measuring its effectiveness
• Manage in the delivery of an Improvement projects, taking ownership where appropriate
• Provides shadowing and mentoring opportunities to share knowledge within DM Depots and the Function
To be considered, you will have:
• Experience at a management or supervisory level
• Proven knowledge in delivering and managing `Quality Systems’ within an organisation
• Recognised experience of communicating with stakeholders and colleagues
• Good knowledge in Quality Management and ISO 9001
• Ability to interpret information Data management and analysis skills
• Experience of identification and implementation of improvement initiatives
• Demonstrate experience of working autonomously
Skills/ Experience
Experience at a management or supervisory level and in delivering and managing `Quality Systems’ within an organisation. This experience includes identification and implementation of improvement initiatives.
What you will be assessed against
To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
• A Level, ONC or BTEC, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent Qualification
• In-depth experience at Lead Auditor at Quality Management and/or Quality Assurance.
• You will require a full UK driving license as there will be occasional travel to DM Sites and overnight stays.
It would benefit your application should you be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
• Knowledge and experience as a Quality Practitioner within a Munitions Logistics and Processing environment
