Job Description

Salary

Job description

We are seeking individuals with Quality Assurance experience to join the DE&S Engineering Quality Assurance Field Force.

We have an opportunity for a Government Quality Assurance Representative (GQAR) with The Defence Quality Assurance Field Force (DQA-FF).
Involvement in a variety of high profile and technically complex defence programmes make these roles both exciting and challenging.

You will have unrivalled opportunities to be involved in some of the most interesting and complex engineering projects being undertaken in the UK today.

DQA FF is the primary organisation within MOD for the delivery of Government Quality Assurance (GQA) surveillance during all phases of defence capability acquisition on behalf of delivery teams and overseas customers.

As our Quality Assurance Representative, you will provide engineering and quality assurance advice and guidance to support our acquisition and engineering managers. The roles available are extremely varied and involve working within small teams in the Field Force based at-or-near Defence supplier sites.

You will be part of a small team of MOD Licensed and Chartered Quality Professionals whose purpose is to assist customers with assurance that suppliers satisfy contractual quality requirements and improve confidence in suppliers’ ability to deliver a quality product.

This is a varied role and although primarily based at HMNB Devonport there will be a requirement to travel to other suppliers within the geographic area. This role is responsible for conducting Quality Assurance Surveillance predominantly in relation to Submarine and Warship maintenance and the manufacture of Weapons and Maritime Spares, design, manufacture and maintenance of specialist vehicles, submarine spares and weapons guidance systems. The work has a strong focus on maritime engineering, supply chain management, maintenance, general engineering, manufacturing and assisting in DEFCON638 / Defence Standard 05/100 Flight Clearance activities.

Responsibilities

As a Government Quality Assurance Representative (GQAR) for Plymouth your main responsibilities will include:

• Development of QA surveillance and assurance plans in response to supplier, supply chain and technical risk.
• Conduct and management of the delivery of QA surveillance in support of risk management, supplier oversight/assurance, verification, validation and acceptance.
• Providing expert advice and guidance to delivery teams concerning technical and supplier risk.
• Supporting pre-contract award activities and providing specialist technical services (e.g. aircraft flight indemnity in support of Defence Condition 638)
• Implementing and contributing to MoD Quality Assurance policy for procurement.
• Contributing to Quality investigations, root cause analysis, internal process performance improvement activities and supplier escalations/interventions.

Please be advised that these roles may require periods of working in isolation and can be physically demanding with the potential for irregular hours. They may involve periods of working at defence suppliers during equipment manufacture and involve working at heights or in confined spaces.

For these roles a broad range of engineering and QA experience would be beneficial as the area of operation for the post can be varied and across different domains. However there may be areas where experience in a domain specific context would be advantageous.

You will be able to demonstrate an ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, and be a motivated self-starter. There will be a requirement for short periods of detached duty in the UK which will involve overnight stays. DE&S Engineers work in a function management construct therefore deployments to other teams and locations may be required and so you must be a team player in a project environment.
