Job description
Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) is seeking Quality Assurance Engineers to join the newly established Internal Technical Services-Government Quality Assurance (ITS-GQA) Practice. The ITS-GQA Practice provides GQA assistance to Project Teams charged with delivering specific projects. ITS-GQA practice members will typically work in one environmental domain, such as weapons or ships.
In DE&S, our people work in Functions; QA is a sub element of the Engineering Function. Under the Functional Management construct, you will, over time, work in different posts. Broad Engineering, Quality Assurance and Quality Management experience would be beneficial, while some roles require domain specific experience.
Please note that whilst this role is based in Abbey Wood, Bristol, there is some flexibility, in the current climate, for remote working, with travel into Abbey Wood as required.
Responsibilities
As a postholder, you will influence Engineering and Project Management decision-making, through the provision of QA advice. You will be involved in a variety of high profile and technically complex defence programmes, making these roles both exciting and challenging.
You will likely lead a small team, delivering, reviewing and continually updating team QA planning. You will also set out contract QA requirements, select suppliers, monitor and report supplier quality performance, and support project delivery, as well as undertaking contract closure activities to enable lessons to be learnt.
Your work will enable the project Delivery Team to gain confidence to deliver to its customer. You will brief Senior Engineers on solutions and how to exploit opportunities, and may interact personally with suppliers’ QA teams.
As a motivated and forward-thinking self-starter, you will engage with people confidently and manage proficiently. You will work with a high degree of autonomy, and be as comfortable working as a team player in a project environment as you are operating alone.
There will be a requirement for short periods of detached duty in the UK, which may involve overnight stays.
You will be looking to achieve a MoD Practitioner Licence and Practitioner status with the Chartered Quality Institute within two years of joining DE&S, attainment of which will be supported by a structured learning programme.
