Are you fascinated by cutting-edge weapon technology and excited by the chance to work first hand with weapons systems on military platforms?
We are looking for a Lead Laser Engineer to join our Directed Energy Weapons (DEW) Team, supporting with the development of state-of-the-art weaponry. In your role, you will play a significant part in accelerating the delivery of Laser Directed Energy Weapons into the hands of British Troops by delivering Capability Demonstrators which will shape user requirements.
Using your excellent communication skills you will build and maintain strong working relationships with industry partners, and have technical responsibility for two Pre-Concept Capability Demonstrators. You will also oversee progress towards technical milestones, risk management and platform integration. You will also be involved in the setting or requirements and the bid evaluation process.
Please note, due to the nature of the projects, this role will be open to Sole UK Nationals only.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Chief Engineer you will:
Provide the lead engineering input into Laser aspects of our Capability Demonstrator Portfolio Plan, as well as managing the technical resources required to input into the project
Manage the technical requirements of the Laser Projects (definition, architecture, integration, contract assessment and management and change)
Develop Engineering Artefacts (including Engineering Management Plans) for the Laser Projects
Work closely with Industry to manage the technical delivery of the projects including risk mitigation
What you will be assessed against
To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
• A Level 6 qualification (or higher) in an engineering or Science subject, or equivalent experience within industry
• Demonstrable experience with weapons systems or projects
• Experience of weapons systems integration
• Strong written and communication skills.
It would benefit your application should you be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
• Experience with Equipment safety – with an understanding of systems safety
• Experience with Lasers
• Experience with planning or undertaking trials
