Salary

£27,200 – £32,000, per annum (plus benefits). Salary listed is pro rata. Internal candidates/existing Civil Servants should refer to the Further Information Leaflet for salary details.

As a Data Analyst, you will work under the ambitious Business Intelligence and Analytics programme acting at the forefront of innovation. You will be involved in areas such as Data Warehousing/Extract Transform Load processing, Visual Analytics and Predictive Analytics. As part of Business Intelligence (BI) and Management Information you will help develop and enable effective and efficient decision making across DE&S and deliver direct benefits to Defence.

Responsibilities

  • Gather, analyse, explore and visualise the data to present the ‘story’ of the data in a meaningful way
    • Work with complex data sets and lead the development of advanced BI capability, through creating and deploying self-service reports and dashboards
    • Debug, monitor, and troubleshoot BI and MI solutions
    • Assist in the development and implementation of complex data models
    • Be an active part of the MI BI & Data Analytics community, attend meetings and participate in working groups.
    • Work collaboratively with team members and actively grow your analytical and data handling knowledge.
    • Validate, store, process and protect data in order to make it reliable, highlighting any discrepancies and ensuring it is accessible to users in a secure authorised way.
    • Regularly use intellectual curiosity to explore data, models and software applications to support data mining and more efficient data manipulation and visualisation.
    • Use traits of curiosity and inquisitiveness to make effective BI and MI reports and root out technical errors.
    • Identify complex business problems whilst leveraging data value, use an evolving range of data analysis tools
    • Develop reports which satisfy defined business requirements and send the desired message.
    • Identify patterns and trends to share insights with the team to inform business decisions.

    What you will be assessed against
    To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essentialcriteria:
    • Experience using a data analytical tool to present information e.g. Data Warehousing experience
    • Experience with developing reports using modern intelligence tools such as Microsoft Power BI

    It would benefit your application if you be able to demonstrate the following desirablecriteria:
    • SQL server experience.
    • It would be desirable if you had data modelling experience
    • Experience of Agile Continuous Improvement and collaborative ways of working
