We have excellent career-starting opportunities available working within Cost Control Finance as part of the wider Project Controls function at DE&S.

You will be part of a team who will be responsible for recording, analysing and reporting of project spend and costs, as well as undertaking any other related cost control activities. You will be supporting the Cost Control team by ensuring costs are identified, managed and controlled which aids the production of financial reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

Working within Cost Control Finance, your main duties and responsibilities will include:

• Work with the Cost Control Lead to produce accurate and timely forecasts ensuring any variance and financial risk commentary is accurate and insightful
• Support other members of staff at Monthly reviews providing the robust forecasting information
• Enter and reconcile cost information into various project financial systems from business case approvals, options and change requests; ensuring a clear audit trail. Consistently monitor project cost spend against these approvals
• Support in the production of inputs, data analysis and forecasts for the Annual Budget Cycle process in conjunction with Project Management (PM)/Project Control Management (PCM)
• To support the challenge and interpretation of supply chains cost data to support accruals and project forecasting
• Produce accrual and general journals with robust supporting evidence and supply the Cost Control lead with information to deal with audit and compliance requests
• Assist Estimators to develop cost models and assist in the production of Investment Appraisals
• Liaise with Finance & Accounting colleagues to ensure correct financial treatment and work with colleagues to make necessary corrections
• Work with PM/Scheduler/PCM to implement Cost Loaded Schedules to drive forecasting. Feed data into the production of Earned Value Management (EVM) analysis and ensure consistency with various systems reporting
• To communicate key project financial performance data to key member of the project, programme and DE&S leadership.
• To influence Leadership within Project, DE&S and Supply chain within the Cost Control technical field

Due to the work involved with one of the positions available, this will only be available to SOLE UK NATIONALS and will require you to obtain DV security clearance.

What you will be assessed against

To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

• Minimum of 5 GCSE or equivalent grades 9 – 4 (A* to C) including English and Maths
• Willing to work towards obtaining AAT qualification

It would benefit your application should you be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

• Previous experience of undertaking data analysis/interpretation of financial information would be advantageous

If you are invited to an interview, you will be assessed against the following technical competencies:

• Cost Control – Accounting (PC)
• Project level financial planning and management (F&A)
