Full-Time Deputy Director of Deconstruction

Job Description

The deputy director of deconstruction position will be training to replace the director of deconstruction as of June 1, 2024. 

The deputy director of deconstruction will work closely with the director of deconstruction in preparation for assuming leadership of the deconstruction department. This position requires a strong leader with a connection to the values of our non-profit organization, including sustainability, historic preservation, and equity for women+ in the construction industry. The ideal candidate will appreciate a balance between demanding physical work, rigorous academic thought, mission-driven community engagement, and goals-oriented business development. This is an opportunity to become a leader in the emerging industry of deconstruction, to work with a passionate team of women+, and directly contribute to the growth of the circular economy.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Support the director of deconstruction in all functions and responsibilities while learning to assume leadership of the department. 
  • Train closely with the director on all aspects of deconstruction, including:
    • deconstruction site assessment and technique
    • crew leadership
    • safety assessment and training
  • Take point on managing deconstruction leads, estimating projects, and closing contracts for new business. 
  • Manage all aspects of permitting for deconstruction projects, including subcontractor scheduling.
  • Manage project timelines and budgets, including daily tracking and reporting. 
  • Collaborate with the deconstruction site manager, whose responsibilities include managing tools and equipment, managing material flow from our job sites to our lumber yard, and performing research and documentation for our deconstruction projects. 

ACADEMIC OR TRADE QUALIFICATIONS

  • An academic background in architecture, sustainability, historic preservation, construction, or similar preferred
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in construction, demolition, deconstruction, historic trades, or other related industry required
  • Crew management or leadership experience required 
  • Strong written and verbal skills along with competence with Google business suite required
  • Public speaking experience preferred
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs required
  • Drivers license required
  • Background check required

Since its inception in 2018, Re:Purpose Savannah has grown from a pilot project into a national leader in the movement toward deconstruction, reuse, and circular economy in the built environment. Our operations include deconstruction and deconstruction consulting as well as management of a reclaimed lumber and architectural salvage yard in East Savannah, Georgia.
