Full-Time Deputy Content Creation Manager

The role
Bristol University Press (BUP), and its imprint Policy Press (PP), is looking to appoint a Deputy Content Creation Manager to join the Production Team.
This is a brand-new role and the successful candidate will be joining at an exciting time of growth and change, both at the Press and in the fast-changing world of scholarly publishing. They will manage the handover of book manuscripts into the production department and the workload of four production editors.
We are looking for a candidate with meticulous attention to detail, an excellent command of written English, and first-rate organisational and line management skills.
What will you be doing?
Key responsibilities of this role include:
- Building working relationships within and between the Commissioning Team and the Production Team, as well as with external suppliers and freelancers.
- Line managing production editors.
- Checking the quality of each manuscript, advising and supporting the Commissioning Team when further work is required.
- Monitoring the flow of handovers against budget and making schedule changes to ensure targets are met.
- Responding to complaints and resolving problems involving other departments (i.e., Commissioning, Marketing) or external contacts (authors).
- Deputising for the Content Creation Manager on their non-working days (approx. 0.4 of working week).
- Project management of own portfolio of monographs (from handover to print).
You should apply if
- Proven ability to liaise and negotiate effectively with high-profile, international author- academics, as well as freelancers, suppliers, and own colleagues at all levels.
- Line management experience.
- Proven ability to work under pressure, work on a large number of projects and consistently meet deadlines.
- Excellent copy-editing and proofreading skills, using industry standard guidelines with substantial onscreen editing experience.
- Meticulous attention to detail, delivering an exceptionally high standard of accuracy.
- Strong Microsoft 365 skills and knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software and XML.
