We are now seeking 4 Dependency and Recovery Workers (one based in each quadrant in Essex – North, East, South and West Essex) to join the Full Circle team on a full-time, fixed-term contract for 24 months. This role is in partnership with Essex Probation.

The Role


As a Dependency and Recovery Worker, you will support people open to Essex Probation who are facing complex and additional needs and want to access treatment and support. You will liaise closely with Probation Practitioners to identify who would benefit from support and offer interventions within the Probation office in your quadrant.

Working with a range of agencies within the criminal justice setting, you will provide psychosocial support for those using substances and alcohol, refer people on Probation to appropriate support agencies and support engagement with those services.

You will become a single point of contact between Essex Probation and community treatment providers to improve communication and positive outcomes for clients.

You will contribute to assessments for Alcohol Treatment Requirement (ATR), Drug Rehabilitation Requirement (DRR) and Mental Health Treatment Requirements (MHRT) in court, engaging with clients through 1-1s and interventions to comply with the order.

Additionally, you will:

  • Liaise with Prisons to ensure a smooth transition into community treatment services for the clients.
  • Support Essex Probation to upskill their staff around substance and alcohol use
  • Support people in recovery through relapse prevention and care planning
  • Build effective working partnerships with other agencies

About You
To join us as a Dependency and Recovery Worker, you will need:

  • Relevant experience of working in the field of problematic substance and alcohol use with a strong background in substance and alcohol interventions and treatment.
  • Evidence of effective partnership working and the ability to network for the benefit of the client and service.
  • Evidence of managing a busy caseload and excellent organisational skills.
  • To be proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook and Word and be familiar with relevant database management systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • The flexibility and ability to travel throughout the County of Essex.

Experience of working within the criminal justice setting would be beneficial to your application.

Experience of creating person-centred care plans and/or timetables based on identified needs would be advantageous, as would experience of partnership working and liaising with community and community treatment services.

A S/NVQ 3 in Care (DANOS-accredited) or equivalent, or a willingness to work towards an agreed number of modules within your probationary period would also be desirable.

Other organisations may call this role Recovery Worker or Substance Misuse/Alcohol Recovery Worker.
