Full-Time Data Architect (Remote Friendly)
Job Description
The Data Architect will be responsible for the direct management of data domain across a varied portfolio as well as solutioning for new products and services working among agile teams. Candidate will be responsible for hands on development, optimization and service management of same including logs, backups, restores, releases, migration and ongoing maintenance.
Candidate will be expected to be well informed and highly experienced with both relational and non-relational databases in terms of architecture, development and support.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
- Architecting, engineering, deploying and supporting cloud native databases across the portfolio. Currently in use: Amazon Aurora, Oracle, DynamoDB, MongoDB, and Snowflake.
- Partnering with the team on identifying the right solutions across the data domain – including databases, ETL tools, business and operational analytics and reporting solutions.
- Understanding existing databases, warehouses, and lake structures to determine how expansion, consolidation or aggregation can occur in an efficient and scalable way.
- Design and code all aspects of data solutions using cloud native tools
- Create and propose technical design documentation which includes current and future functionality, database objects affected, specifications, flows and diagrams to detail the proposed implementation.
- Monitor the backlogs and ad hoc requests queues along with peers and teams to fulfill data and reporting needs with high quality and timeliness
- Possess and maintain expert industry knowledge in best practices, well-architected framework and quality ad-hoc analysis and troubleshooting.
- Create standardized reports concerning development, optimization, service management, operations and forecasting for the data domain.
- Ability to develop visualization and analytical dashboards leveraging Tableau and other such business intelligence tools to provide operational insight.
Essential Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelors or higher in Technology, Communications or IT
- At least 7 years of database experience (Amzon Aurora, Oracle, DynamoDB, MongoDB, Redshift, Postgres)
- At least 7 years of work experience writing and debugging advanced SQL queries (ETL, Data modeling, Data mining, Database design, Business intelligence architectures, etc) within large-scale, complex data sets
- At least 5 years of experience in data guard, data replication, application scalability and high-availability architecture
- Expert knowledge of DBA best practices including schema management, index optimization, OS-level tuning, network management
- Expert knowledge of warehousing solutions like Snowflake and ETL tools like Matillion or Pentaho
- Expert query and database tuning skills
- Working knowledge of scripting languages (Python, Perl, Ruby)
- Working knowledge of IAC (Terraform, CloudFormation) and AWS fundamentals (Dynamo, Redshift, EC2, S3, Containers, Microservices, etc)
- Working knowledge of standard management practices: backups, restoration, patching, sanity checks, data integrity checks, migrations, etc.
- Experience with database security configurations, administration and access management
- Experience in a 24×7 production environment
- Forecasting, capacity monitoring and management ability
- Experience working with large, distributed agile teams
- Experience with Agile methodologies and Scrum practices
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop and Spark.
- Experience with machine learning and AI.
- Experience with FISMA, FedRAMP, ITSM, ITIL
- Experience with IaaS, CaaS, PaaS, FaaS, SaaS
- Experience with global data management
- Experience in low latency, high performance application development and support (ie IOT or Machine based networks)
