Primary Purpose
Execute strategies and actions that address reducing damages to pipelines cause by contractors, homeowners, and company personnel. Patrol excavation sites to provide on-the-spot education. Provide damage prevention training internally and to various external audiences.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain visibility in high-risk areas and provides on-the-spot safe excavation education to contractors and homeowners. Patrol excavation sites and ensure that USA tickets are visible.
- Regularly meet with city representatives to educate them on the adverse safety aspects of excavation damages, drain on city or county resources and leverage enforcement opportunities against excavators not following State Law.
- Recording daily activities and collect data used to better understand the causes and emerging trends contributing to excavation damages including identification of repeat offenders, drivers of unsafe excavation practices, develop leading indicators, and improve public awareness, etc.
- Provide internal refresher training on Locate & Mark requirements.
- Attend and present damage prevention topics at various public events and conduct excavation safety meetings for external contractors.
- Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties)
Required Qualifications:
- H.S. Diploma/GED
- 3+ years – Experience in Gas Operations or in a position which provides thorough knowledge of the details concerning damage prevention and field operations activities.
- Requires knowledge of Locate & Mark functions, responsibilities, tools and systems used to issue and track requests for locates.
- Experience or competent knowledge of damage prevention best practices and processes.
- Knowledge of Damage Prevention laws and regulations.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to develop and present information to diverse audiences.
- Requires strong interpersonal skills to constantly engage and educate excavators in the field.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Deals effectively with ambiguity, has good business sense, highly innovative and creative, demonstrates high standards for performance and improvement and is goal oriented.
- Valid California Driver’s License.
- Requires physical conditioning to safely walk across active construction sites on private land and public right of ways. Requires walking most of the work-day and commuting throughout service territory.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Public speaking experience.
- Bilingual desired.
