Full-Time Cybersecurity Training & Support Specialist

Job Description

The City of Worcester seeks qualified applicants for Cybersecurity Training & Support Specialist (Technical Trainer) in the Innovation and Technology Department. Under the direction of the Director of IT Administration, the position will increase the security awareness of all employees and improve the City’s overall security posture to reduce the likelihood of the City becoming the victim of a cyberattack. The employee will develop and implement change and adoption frameworks, strategies, and deployment methods including collateral required to increase cybersecurity awareness of end users. This position will manage the City’s Employee Cybersecurity Awareness Program, including proactive steps, interventions, and data sharing, to make it easier for leaders and their staff across the city to learn about, understand, and mitigate cybersecurity risk.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:

  • Develop and implement change and adoption frameworks, strategies, and deployment methods including collateral required to increase cybersecurity awareness of end users.
  • Manage the City’s Employee Cybersecurity Awareness Program, including proactive steps, interventions, and data sharing, to make it easier for leaders and their staff across the city to learn about, understand, and mitigate cybersecurity risk.
  • Develop and conduct cyber awareness training, online and in-person and distribute cyber-related content across the city in a variety of mediums.
  • Create content to be published on the City’s employee cybersecurity awareness web portal.
  • Participate in information sharing and collaboration with federal, state, local and other appropriate entities to increase the City’s cybersecurity awareness and resiliency.
  • Conduct research and attend training and workshops to stay abreast of changes in technology, local, state, and federal laws and regulations pertaining to cyber security.
  • Consult, advise and participate in cybersecurity-related matters, including but not limited to the implementation of new platforms, creation and update of policies and procedures and incidents.
  • Provide on-call support for end users with cybersecurity questions, including potential phishing emails.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • General knowledge of the field of cybersecurity and an understanding of the critical role it plays in ensuring organizational health.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the demonstrated ability to make staff comfortable with complex technical concepts, and develop a high-trust relationship with employees across the organization.
  • Knowledge of adult training techniques.
  • Excellent data processing and analysis skills.
  • Experience delivering employee training online and to in-person groups.
  • Ability to quickly become an expert on all topics related to cybersecurity awareness and gain a broad general understanding of good practice as it relates to cybersecurity and the City’s systems and architecture.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality and engaging presentations to groups.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to handle problems and emergencies effectively.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in cybersecurity, computer science or communications; OR
    • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job will be considered in lieu of the above-mentioned requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills in both smaller team meetings and larger classroom settings
  • Experience with PowerPoint, SharePoint, Virtual instruction platforms and creating presentations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three (3) years of experience delivering cybersecurity awareness training.
  • Two (2) years of experience creating communication plans.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification

SALARY RANGE: $65,578 – $85,885 annually, full-time, exempt, with an excellent benefits package.
