Medical ICU (MICU) – actively seeking night shift interest
The Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at Froedtert is a high energy 40-bed critical care unit. The majority of MICU patients are severely ill and high acuity requiring frequent nursing assessment and intervention. Patient populations commonly served include: septic shock respiratory disease requiring mechanical ventilation GI bleeding multisystem organ failure pulmonary hypertension DKA/HHNK hypertensive emergencies/crises acute drug overdoses-intentional/non-intentional and medication desensitization. With specialty therapies that may include: Induced hypothermia CRRT/CVVH IL-2 infusions rapid infusion for emergent fluid or blood replacement and flolan/remodulin infusions. The MICU unit culture is one of teamwork and comradery. Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) – actively seeking night shift interest
The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit is a 20-bed state of the art ICU. We care for medical and surgical cardiovascular patients including a large population of Advanced Heart Failure patients pre and post heart transplant patients those needing short or long term ventricular assist device support and patients with cardiopulmonary failure. In addition we care for complex vascular and thoracic surgical patients and those recovering from acute MI. Our interprofessional team of nurses physicians advanced practice providers patient care technicians respiratory care practitioners and physical and occupational therapists work together to ensure optimal high quality care and outcomes for our patients. The CVICU staff is highly engaged in both the work unit and process improvement.

Surgical ICU (SICU)
The Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) at Froedert Hospital is a 21 bed critical care area that cares for some of the most critically ill patients in the state of Wisconsin and Northern IL. Our patient population includes critically ill patients: trauma surgery acute care surgery surgical oncology thoracic surgery plastic surgery neurology and neurosurgery all of whom require the highest level of monitoring and specialized nursing care that can be provided. Our inter-professional team consists of nurses critical care technicians physicians respiratory therapists nurse practitioners PT/OT/ speech therapists social workers and dieticians who work together to ensure optimal high quality care and outcomes for our patients. With a patient to nurse ratio of 2:1 or 1:1 our team is passionate about providing exceptional care to every patient and their family.

Transplant ICU (TICU) – actively seeking night shift interest
Our bright and newly expanded Transplant Intensive Care Unit is a 20 bed specialty ICU that cares for pre and post abdominal transplant patients. Our team of critical care nurses occupational and physical therapists advanced practice providers (APNP or PA) hepatologists nephrologists and transplant surgeons partner to provide the highest level of care. We provide complex therapies such as advanced ventilator support hemodynamic monitoring and continuous renal replacement therapy to support our patients during critical illness; with a patient to nurse ratio of 2:1 or 1:1. Neuro ICU (NICU)
The Neuro Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 20 bed specialty ICU that cares for stroke neurointerventional procedures neurovascular surgery epilepsy spinal cord injury and brain injury patients. Our team of critical care nurses therapists advanced practice providers physicians and surgeons partner to provide the highest level of care 24 hours a day 7 days a week. With a patient to nurse ratio of 2:1 or 1:1. Our team is passionate about providing exceptional care to every patient and their family.

Critical Care Resource Pool – actively seeking night shift interest
Our experienced Resource Pool nurses have the opportunity to float to any one of the five critical care units everyday they work making a difference in our patients lives.

Critical Care Staff RN Responsibilities:

The Registered Nurse is a practitioner who is responsible for assessing planning implementing and evaluating nursing care for an identified group of patients in an inpatient environment. This individual demonstrates competency in delivery of care to a primarily adult population. The Staff RN-Inpatient job description has incorporated essential functions which are adapted from the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice 2nd Edition (2010).

Critical Care Staff RN Requirements:

Clinical competence and experience in the care and management of target patient populations specific to area of employment. Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of education at an accredited School of Nursing in order to be eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse is required. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred. Requires current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or a Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact). Mandatory BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
