The Team:
After a successful pre-pandemic pilot exploring the potential relationship between Games/interactive media and the British Council’s arts and cultural relations programme, we’re now ready to start playing full time – and we’re looking for someone to help us do it.
The British Council is the UK’s cultural relations agency – we build trust between people in the UK and people everywhere else – and a big part of that programme involves the arts and creative industries.
The Role
We’re looking for someone to join us as a Creative Technology Relationship Manager. This role will help develop long-term relationships with the UK’s creative technology and games sectors, and design a programme that supports the UK’s players to internationalise, fostering an environment which encourages creative collaboration with international peers.
If this is you, you’ll be responsible for developing the British Council’s role as broker for the creative technologies sector internationally; you’ll work to further the British Council’s role as a policy shaper, promoting the recognition and support of creative technology and games as vectors of British art and culture; and you’ll support international programme ideas working with colleagues in over 100 countries.
This is a fantastically exciting opportunity to activate and develop the British Council’s approach to creative technology; to explore how new interactive processes – VR, AR, AI, XR – overlap and intersect with conventional art forms; and to champion the dynamism of the UK’s creative technology sectors on the world stage.
Accountabilities are but not limited to:
Sector/subject expertise
Actively builds professional networks and information channels that maintain an excellent understanding of relevant developments, stakeholders and opinion formers across the UK Creative Technology sector to support the creation and delivery of high quality projects/programmes.
Relationship & stakeholder management.
Proactively identifies and cultivates potential/actual partners for project and programme development and delivery and secures the successful achievement of British Council objectives.
Programme management
Contributes to the development and presentation of specific project or programme proposals, both face-to-face and digital, including the subject or sector specialism related component of wider programmes, to ensure these are soundly based and gain approval
Business development
As part of a wider team contributes professional input to support development of high quality, competitive and customer/market-focused bids, tender submissions, programme 3 plans and sponsorship appeals, which can generate specified commercial returns and cultural relations impact.
Requirements of the role:
– in-depth knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, the contemporary UK creative technology landscape
– the ability to make critical judgements across different genres
– the enthusiasm to explore the ways these rapidly evolving forms can play an ongoing part in the British Council’s cultural relations mission
– an excellent network of current contacts across the UK creative technology sectors
– a track record of delivering creative technology/gaming projects at varying scales, ideally internationally.
Closing Date: Applications will close on 13th August 2023 at 23:59 UK Time.
