Overall Responsibilities
Reporting to the Senior Controller, the Cost Accountant will be responsible for the preparation of our cost estimates for our Health Food product segments and will assist with the branded and strategic partner product costs; including the review of product cost change requests for components. The incumbent will also support the reporting and analysis of manufacturing variances and identify and implement processes that will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the reporting. In addition to the daily and regular reporting requirements the Cost Accountant will assist with month end close and audit processes by processing Journal Entries, completing account recs and responding to inquiries.
Specific Key Responsibilities & Duties
• Reconcile JLL Applied Labour to ADP reports daily
• Review and prioritize requests for costing
• Accumulate required inputs and prepare cost estimates for new products, product extensions and/or process changes
• Process and review product changes through PCC notification to ensure all items have the proper cost
• Review production and manufacturing variance reports as well as related GL reconciliation details. Assist with interpretation and root cause analysis
• Recommend and support process improvements for production reporting both in and outside the finance department
• Prepare monthly reports for all inventory disposed for both damaged and aged inventory
• Work with Toronto Finance Reps to ensure international inventory sub ledgers are reconciled for monthly reporting
• Prepare weekly Inventory Valuation report for Management
• Prepare monthly account reconciliations (including inventory, unapplied labour)
• Prepare monthly journal entries (including production volume, reclass of inventory adjustments, revenue recognition, intercompany charges)
• Print and review the Bible on a monthly basis; report significant changes
• Annual review of actual and standard labour for bulk and finished goods in preparation of new standards.
• Assist in the process of updating new standards and budget preparation for the new year
• Other duties as assigned
• Working in compliance with the company’s Health & Safety Policies/SOPs including but not limited to the Safety Responsibilities Procedure
• Will comply with Good Manufacturing Practices in all GMP sensitive areas of Jamieson Laboratories Ltd. facilities
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requirements
• Successful completion of College or University diploma/degree in accounting or business; or equivalent work experience (minimum 1 [one] year) in a costing/inventory environment
• Computer literate in spread sheeting (Excel) & word processing (Word) programs
• Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently with good time management skills
