Position Overview
Under direction, on an assigned shift at the Joliet Inpatient Treatment Center (JITC) Mental Health (MH) Program, serves as Administrator on Duty (AOD). Provides nursing leadership and gives direction to unit staff responsible for the care and treatment of inmates with mental illness; maintains unit coverage; reports unusual incidents to off-duty administrative staff; relieves unit Registered Nurses for breaks when indicated; monitors proper implementation of nursing procedures and provides direct assistance on the unit and any shift.
 
Job Responsibilities
  1. On an assigned shift at the Joliet Inpatient Treatment Center (JITC) Mental Health (MH) Program, serves as Administrator on Duty (AOD).
  2. Monitors nursing coverage on treatment units and deploys staff and authorizes call-backs to maintain adequate coverage.
  3. Provides professional nursing care.
  4. Prepares shift reports for Administrative Staff.
  5. Responds to emergency requests for admissions from community hospital emergency rooms or police departments.
  6. Identifies staff education and training needs and works with Associate Directors of Nursing (ADONs) to develop follow-up education plans.
  7. Completes special projects or reports, as assigned by the Director of Nursing or Hospital Administrator.
  8. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Requires (a) graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing and three (3) years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience. OR (b) A bachelor’s degree in nursing and two (2) years of professional nursing experience. OR (c) A master’s degree in nursing.
  2. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Conditions of Employment
  1. Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends, and holidays.
  2. Requires the ability to serve on an on-call basis.
  3. Requires the ability to acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
  4. Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
  5. Requires ability to pass the IDOC background check.
  6. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
