Established as a community non-profit in 1972, The Center provides targeted programs and services to the full diversity of the San Diego LGBTQ community. The mission of The Center is to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, nonbinary, immigrant, and HIV communities for the betterment of our entire San Diego region. Our vision is to create a Center and Center culture where every person feels and knows they are welcomed, valued, and supported. As the beacon for our regional LGBTQ community, we actively recommit to being a more vibrant, bold, innovative, safe, and modern center each day than the day before. The Center is sex-positive and provides advocacy, critical health, and social support services to support our community members through all stages of life. We focus on our deeply held values of equity, social justice, and client-centered, trauma-informed care. The Center currently has over 75 staff working at five facilities across San Diego County.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Coordinator, Special Events will be a self-starter who thrives in a goal-driven environment with the ability to handle multiple projects and changing priorities. The ideal candidate has some sales experience, customer service experience, or both and is a strong, confident public speaker. This position will spend time in various San Diego neighborhoods, visiting local bars and restaurants in person, following up with them over the phone and email, and supporting the events team in preparing for the event.

PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify potential Dining Out For Life® San Diego and share the benefits of participating with owners and managers and successfully recruit their bar or restaurant as a participant in this annual fundraising event.
  • Successfully recruit a minimum of 15 new Dining Out For Life® San Diego bars and restaurants through in-person visits, over the phone, and through email; this includes researching prospective locations and developing customized invitations to recruit the specific location.
  • Steward new locations to ensure the contracts and necessary information is obtained for the event and help them promote their participation through social media and marketing opportunities.
  • Support the events team with event preparation, including but not limited to organizing materials, distributing information and promotional materials, and loading and unloading event supplies (repeated lifting of 50 lbs.)
  • Available to work Dining Out For Life® San Diego prep week on Monday, April 24 through Wednesday, April 26, 2023, and work Dining Out For Life® San Diego event day on Thursday, April 27, 2023.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education/Experience: 1-2 years’ experience in high-volume sales and/or customer service.
  • Professional Skills: ability to interact with various types of donors and community members; strong planning and organizational skills; comfort in making connections through phone calls and in person.
  • Personal Skills: Outgoing and personable; comfortable pitching events to potential locations in person and over the phone; familiarity with the LGBTQ+ communities and the work of The Center
  • Technology Skills: Intermediate skills in MS Office Suite, specifically Word, and Excel.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education/Experience: 1-2 years’ experience fundraising and planning large-scale events preferred.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in Spanish is preferred.

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • Compensation: The pay range for this position is $20 – $24 and is commensurate with experience. This is a part-time, temporary, non-exempt
  • Benefits: Only those required by the state of California.
