Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Cook I for the Fox Developmental Center located in Dwight, Illinois to prepare and cook on a quantity scale basis for individuals and staff of the Fox Developmental Center. Assumes responsibility for the section of the meal preparation assigned. Batch cooks according to policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities
1. Prepares and cooks on a quantity scale basis for individuals and staff of the Fox Developmental Center.
2. Operates standard cooking equipment such as mixing machines, steam cookers, toasters, food choppers, bake oven, steam kettles.
3. Assists in the inspection of the kitchen to verify the kitchen is equipped with supplies and needed food.
4. Cleans equipment and work area to maintain proper health, sanitary and safety conditions.
5. Serves as back-up for the food service line with food/batch cook required food items.
6. Completes Department of Human Services (DHS) mandatory training requirements, including the utilization of the state’s computerized system and participates in education workshops to maintain profession and competency.
7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school and six months of cooking experience which provides working knowledge of food preparation and cooking methods on a large-scale basis.
2. Requires possession of a valid Food Service Sanitation Certificate issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health or requires possession of a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification from a program accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Conference for Food Protection (CFP).
• Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated education and experience requirements for this class.

Conditions of Employment
1. Requires ability to instruct and direct others in the various areas of food preparation and in the sanitation of kitchen work areas.
2. Requires ability to estimate the quantity of food items and kitchen supplies needed.
3. Requires physical ability to lift and/or carry heavy items and to push or pull carts laden with food items or supplies.
4. Requires ability to work under physically demanding conditions, such as extreme temperature changes, exposure to cleaning agents and/or standing for extended periods of time.
5. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
6. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
7. Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
