Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Cook I for the Murray Developmental Center located in Centralia, Illinois to cook meats and vegetables and prepare other foods and beverages. Prepares and cooks food to meet special diet menu requirements. Operates standard cooking equipment such as mixing machines, steam cookers, toasters, food choppers, bake ovens, steam kettles. Assists in the inspection of the kitchen to verify the kitchen is equipped with the necessary supplies and needed food daily. Cleans equipment and work area to maintain sanitation, safety and conditions. Completes all Department of Human Services (DHS) mandatory training requirements and participates in education workshops to maintain profession and competency.

Job Responsibilities
1. Cooks meats and vegetables and prepares other foods and beverages; prepares and cooks food to meet special diet menu requirements.
2. Operates standard cooking equipment such as mixing machines, steam cookers, toasters, food choppers, bake ovens, steam kettles.
3. Assists in the inspection of the kitchen to verify the kitchen is equipped with the necessary supplies and needed food daily.
4. Cleans equipment and work area to maintain sanitation, safety and conditions.
5. Completes all Department of Human Services (DHS) mandatory training requirements and participates in education workshops to maintain profession and competency.
6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school and six months of cooking experience which provides a working knowledge of food preparation and cooking methods on a large-scale basis.
• Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated education and experience requirements for this class.

Conditions of Employment
1. Requires the ability to obtain a valid Food Service Sanitation Certificate issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health or a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification from a program accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Conference for Food Protection (CFP) within 30 days of employment.
2. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
3. Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. This also requires the ability to work in a 24-hour “on-call” capacity.
4. This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds and the ability to push or pull carts laden with food items or supplies.
5. Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
6. Requires the ability to pass the IDHS background check.
7. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
8. Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
