Full-Time Controller

Job Description

ABOUT THE POSITION: The Controller contributes significantly to the overall success of the agency by strategically directing and effectively managing all financial aspects of the organization. They are responsible for reporting and analysis, internal controls, financial compliance, audit and tax functions, as well as coordinating the daily operations of all accounting functions. The Controller is the senior financial position, reporting directly to the COO. They lead the finance department comprised of approximately four accounting staff coordinating Payroll, G/L & Bank Account Reconciliation, Banking Operations, Accounts Payable & Receivable, and Project Accounting. As a member of the leadership team, the Controller provides guidance, subject matter expertise, and actively participates in defining the agency’s overall strategic direction in areas of operational infrastructure and financial strategies that promote long-term sustainability.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION: Compass Housing Alliance is approximately an $18M agency, comprised of approximately 14-LLC’s and 29 separate cost centers. LOCATION: Headquarters in Pioneer Square (Seattle, WA)

REPORTS TO: Chief Operations Officer

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

SCHEDULE: Weekdays plus evenings and weekends as needed

SALARY RANGE: DOE and within Compass ranges

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required, master’s degree strongly desired in accounting, finance, or related field. Or relevant work experience, certificate and/or equivalent continuing professional development or education.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), strongly preferred.
  • At least 5 years’ progressive responsibility in non-profit accounting.
  • Proven experience in a related industry and a working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience working in the MIP system, preferred.
  • Familiarity with issues of homelessness, mental illness, substance abuse, sexual assault, and/or domestic violence, desired.
