Full-Time Continuous Improvement Manager

How you will contribute:

The AGILE Manager role is full-time dedicated to AGILE as a part of the Business Excellence team.

  • It is designed to attract individuals who have a track record of high performance with demonstrated learning agility to lead change and continuous improvements.

  • AGILE Managers go through a robust certification process which will build key capabilities in operational excellence, digital technologies and cultural change.

  • This is a significant investment in the development and career opportunity for individuals and will help them build the skills, behaviors and mindset for success.

  • Upon two to three years of successful term in this role, AGILE Managers will be recognized as candidates for future opportunities to further progress their careers in the organization.

The AGILE Manager (OE focus) will lead & Manager AGILE Operational Excellence (OE) deployment for a key area such as Fractionation, Purification or Engineering Maintenance. This involves collaboratively planning, building skills & capabilities, and driving deployment of elements of the AGILE Operating System (AOS) that help the area achieve its goals.

This is a developmental role requiring versatility and fast learning. Provides high visibility to senior leaders across the site.           

  • Represents AGILE in manufacturing as the point of contact for driving continuous improvement in operations and mindset.

  • Use AGILE methods and tools to drive the site strategy to achieve its transformational (breakthrough) objectives faster.

  • This includes identifying opportunities aligned with strategy, making these visible, building the business case/burning platform to create momentum, leading and/or coaching teams to drive change and ensuring outcomes are achieved and visible.

  • Connect and collaborate with global, regional and OpU groups to bring Good Practices to the site and to share our Good Practices with others.

  • Develop from learning AGILE methods and tools, through leading implementations (deliver results) to become a coach (build capabilities in others) in one or more elements of AGILE OE

  • Become ‘approved’ by Global OE to deliver workshops and lead implementations

  • Become a role model in AGILE mindset, Manager change and demonstrate key skills, particularly in root-cause problem solving, 5S, Standard Work, Visual systems (including Tier mechanisms) and Leader GEMBA

  • At times may be assigned work in other AGILE streams such as Digital, or People, Culture & Change

  • Have a demonstrated passion for challenging the status quo and relentlessly trying to improve the operation.

  • Open to doing things differently and have a track record of taking concepts and implementing locally.

  • Clearly demonstrate structured, logical, critical and analytical thinking.

  • A natural people person, comfortable networking and connecting people

  • Self-motivated and self-directed with a proven record of results.

  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills. Ability to lead and motivate teams to achieve business goals.

  • Advanced PC skills such as MS Office, process mapping software, Minitab.

  • Experience in FDA regulated environment, Good Manufacturing Practices, ISO 9001 is a plus.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.

  • Must have strong organizational and project management abilities along with knowledge of manufacturing    processes and continuous improvement approaches.

  • Must be able to train others and work with employees on all levels. Must be able to work extended hours and   various shifts

Complexity and Problem Solving

  • Conduct and Lead Problem Solving strategies and workshops.

What you bring to Takeda:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience in Manufacturing, Lean and Six Sigma.

  • Background in Operational Excellence, Continuous Improvement, Lean would be necessary; Six Sigma green belt or black training / certification a plus.

  • 2+ years of experience desirable in the biotechnology / pharmaceutical industry is preferred.

Key Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

  • Soft skills: Communication, Leadership, Teamwork, People Management

  • Lean: Ability to run workshops, Gemba walks and Tools implementations.

  • Six Sigma: Ability to conduct and lead Rapid DMAIC workshops, Teach and Coach the tools.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Frequently or constantly to lift, carry push, pull or move objects and repetitive motions.

  • Subject to inside environmental conditions.

  • Work is performed in an office setting.

  • Position requires a combination of sedentary work and walking around the facility.

  • Must be able to work multiple shifts, including weekends if needed/required.

  • Non-Exempt roles must be able to work overtime when required.

  • Some clean room and cool/hot storage conditions.

  • May be required to work in a cold and/or wet environment.

  • Maybe required to work in confined spaces.

  • May be required to enter controlled environments requiring special gowning.

  • Travel for this position will include less than 5% locally usually for training purposes.

Important Considerations

At Takeda, our patients rely on us to deliver quality products. As a result, we must follow strict rules in our manufacturing facilities to ensure we are not endangering the quality of the product. In this role, you may:

  • May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and other clean room garments daily. This may include safety shoes, safety glasses, aprons, face shields, lab coats, full body gowns, hair nets and gloves and hearing protection.

  • Need to remove all make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish and/or artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment.

  • Work in a cold, wet environment.

  • Work multiple shifts, including weekends, or be asked to work supplemental hours, as necessary.

  • Work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that may require respiratory protection.
