The Challenge
We are looking for an Construction Technician to join our Smithfield Resident Engineering team.
In this role, you will:
    • Support Engineers and other professionals in construction inspections, surveying, materials testing, materials sampling, erosion control inspections, and construction traffic control audits.
    • Conduct compliance/code inspections.
    • Collect and analyze field data.
    • Perform materials testing.
    • Review and interpret design plans.
    • Analyze engineering-related and product data.
    • Perform construction layouts, measurings, stakings, markings, and clear brush.
    • Evaluate and apply engineering judgment to plan interpretation.
    • Establish and maintain positive communications between technicians, engineers, contractors, and public.
    • Traverse rough terrain when evaluating highway construction.
    • Apply a safety philosophy and program to all operations.
    • Accurately maintain daily work records.
    • Safely operate a State vehicle.
 
What You Bring
    • Experience maintaining neat, legible, and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry
    • Experience reading/interpreting construction plans, standards, and specifications.
    • Experience performing math functions, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
    • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
    • Working knowledge of Basic Work Zone and Job Site Safety.
    • Ability to safely work in close proximity to high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment.
 
Education & Experience
    • Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
