Full-Time Construction Supervisor
Job Description
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Construction Supervisor for Sanitation and Solid Waste to join our team. This key role will support the Government of Nauru in enhancing the sustainability, resilience, access, quality, and safety of urban services related to water supply, sanitation, and solid waste management as part of the Nauru Sustainable and Resilient Urban Development Project (SRUDP). The project has a duration of approximately 1.67 years, with a minimum onsite assignment in Nauru of 10 months per year.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the construction of sanitation and solid waste management projects, ensuring adherence to design specifications and project timelines.
- Supervise the construction of water reservoirs and new septage/organic waste treatment facilities, including composting operations.
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive quality management system for the organic waste facility and resource recovery operations.
- Ensure compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with local construction auditors to monitor progress and enforce quality standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify and mitigate risks related to construction activities.
- Manage relationships with contractors, ensuring effective communication and problem-solving on-site.
- Prepare detailed progress reports and documentation for stakeholders, including quality records and compliance reports.
- Provide training and mentorship to local staff to build capacity in construction supervision and quality management.
- Perform any additional responsibilities related to the role as required by project demands.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience, including at least 5 years in direct supervision of civil infrastructure construction projects, such as earthworks, pavement, concrete, and steel structures, as well as water-retaining structures.
- Must be willing to commit to at least 10 months onsite each year during the contract duration.
- Extensive experience managing and supervising construction projects in small island developing states in the Pacific is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills with a solid understanding of quality management principles and record-keeping practices.
- Detail-oriented, analytical, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Must be prepared to relocate and work in Nauru.
