NEW HIGHER SALARY: $45,675 – $79,932
The Challenge
We are looking for a Construction Specialist to join Division 4 Construction team in our Halifax office.
 
In this role you will:
    • Lead onsite technicians or perform inspections of highway construction projects.
    • Supervise staff on construction projects.
    • Conduct and coordinate reviews of technical plans and drawings relating to driveway permit applications, utility encroachment requests, subdivision design standards, and road addition packages.
    • Coordinate preconstruction meetings and onsite inspections of all construction activities within the Right of Way conducted by private developers, utility owners, and NCDOT contractors.
What You Bring
    • Considerable knowledge of the principals/practices of Civil Engineering and highway maintenance methods, techniques, and the use/operation of field/office engineering instruments.
    •  Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
    • Customer service experience solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to various customer groups.
    • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
    • You work best in a team environment to complete assignments.
    • Computer skills using Microsoft Office and drafting software.
    • Ability to plan, organize, and schedule highway maintenance operations.
    • Maturity and wisdom to make independent decisions.
    • Working knowledge of standard road maintenance and construction procedures.
    • Ability to operate state vehicle.
    • Communication skills to work effectively with co-workers, NCDOT staff, contractors, local and state officials, and the public.
    • Ability to understand, explain, and administer project assignments.
    • Skills to interpret plans provisions, specifications, policies, procedures, and regulations.
Management Prefers
Candidates with a valid Driver’s License.
Note
    • You will be required to work nights and weekends as needed for emergency and planned operations in all types of weather conditions and on uneven surfaces and slopes.
 
Education and Experience
    • Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, and
    • 6+ years of relevant technician experience; or
    • High School/GED diploma, and
    • 8+ years of relevant technician experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
